I always assume that others are not properly prepared, because they rarely are.

Which also includes most open carriers. Walking around with an exposed firearm just draws attention. The “well it doesn’t happen to cops” analogy is off base as assaulting a cop is a much more serious crime than assaulting a random numbnuts open carrying on the street.

We’ve worn this conversation out but I still think open carry is unwise in an urban/suburban setting.

What always astonishes me about this sort of discussion, is that one side is never going to convince the other side of the righteousness of their position. And yet both sides feel the need to repeatedly espouse their position as if it will, at some point, magically change their opponent’s mind. It’s like the topic of ‘caliber verses stopping power’, once you post your thoughts on the matter, there’s really nothing more need be said. The Pope says it best (see post #31).

This conversation has been worn out by the unsubstantiated claims that OC draws attention (I can attest firsthand that it rarely does) or that it makes the individual doing so a target (again, a few examples over several years does not a trend make).

I am willing to listen to fact-based discussions against OC if anyone were to present some, but so far all we have heard are uncorroborated conjecture and supposition.

Maybe we all should just keep doing what we think is best for ourselves. As long as we’re all carrying then all is right in the world

Once again, my O.P. asked for members to tell of THEIR EXPERIENCES while legally O.C.'ing in Texas. I am not interested in "what might happen", "fat man stories", or opinions on the advisability of O.C. Please stick to the topic, or go elsewhere to opine. leVieux

Obviously you’ve already heard any real experiences. All the other shit is what’s left.

    Lighten up, Francis.

So be it--it's unwise for you. For the rest of us, well, we're gonna do what we're gonna do.

OC vs CC, 9mm vs .40, Dems vs Republicans. It's the same ol shit, no matter the difference. Both parties think they are right and their way is the only way. No one looks at the bigger picture and settles on common ground and this is why our liberties are slowly dissipating. Does not make a hill of beans on which way one wishes to carry, as long as they are armed, correct? This is the big picture right? Is this not what we are fighting to keep? Why fight over stupid shit, like the way we carry, what brand we carry or what caliber we carry. Take that energy and focus it on the real threat.

On that note, I carry how ever I wish to carry at the present time. Sometimes I cc and sometimes I oc. Mostly depends on what I am wearing that day, not what people may think or where I'm going. Although, I do dress "appropriately" for the occasion. The times I do oc, there is zero issues. Not from the snowflakes, nor LEO's and even oc in my bank. No whispers and no stares that I'm aware of, just polite conversations, good days and thank you's. This doesn't mean that I feel comfortable all the time when I do oc, but this is due to the stigmata that mainstream media has pushed upon firearm owners. I just reassure myself, hey I have my LTC and am perfectly legal to carry any way I wish. Not once have I heard of ANY person in my area being harassed by LEO or civilians for normal oc carry, only for numbnuts carrying several rifles/pistols looking for attention or confrontation.

    That's my .02 cents

    Here
My wife and I were at Braums yesterday and there was a man there that was open carrying. My wife walked right by him and did not notice his gun. And it appeared to me that no one else noticed it either. He is the first person that I have seen open carrying.

    Gunz are icky.
I've seen very very few open carrying. Maybe three or four people.
Did notice one older gentleman who wore a loose shirt over a nice 1911.
    Wouldn't call that OC tho.

Like many others here I do not OC.

I got quite a bit of a surprise at the college yesterday. I was talking with several of the staff (mainly admin.) and the subject of LTC came up and many of them had just taken the class, and several of them were people I would have thought wouldn't be the type to carry. I feel my job is now a much safer place.
