Ok, so it doesn't rank up there with the wheel but, is it an altogether bad idea? Isn't it better than leaving them defenseless?

    Put it this way:
Let’s assume you owned no guns. Would you be any safer with buckets of rocks around your house?

A bucket of rocks against an armed assailant is defenseless.

How long before one student brains another student (or a teacher) with a rock or 2 from the bucket? Do we need a poll? I give it less than 30 days.
How long until achkmed the 30 year old child refugee in 9th grade stones some girl for showing off too much skin?

Thirty kids chunking rocks as fast as they can might very well make these cowardly school shooters go somewhere else. A couple of good smacks in the head and I would wager that the shooter would go elsewhere.

I am not saying this is a good solution. But better than nothing.

    Probably a joke anyhow.

All I can say is a bucket of rocks beats hiding under a desk, barely. Of course they would stash the bucket by the door where the shooter would come in. Can you feature 30 students scrambling for a rock bucket.

How do you have a practice drill? Have the Principal masquerade as a shooter? I like that.

Mano a mano? Nope, those odds don't favor me one bit but, that's not the scenario in your OP which is what I replied to.

So let me get this straight, an armed shooter comes into the room and all the kids gather at the bucket to get rocks. Isn't that like putting all the fish in one barrel?

That's all I am saying. The shooter almost certainly won't be able to aim, just spray towards the intended victims.

    Will there be victims? Possibly.
Will there be fewer victims if they throw rocks? God I hope so.

They are already in the proverbial barrel, wouldn't you like to offer them some kind of fitting chance?

Clearly I'm going against the grain in this thread but a bucket of rocks (no matter how many and where dispersed) in the classroom is better than training kids to turn their backs and hide under a chair during an attack situation.

Do I have a fool proof solution to this insanity? No where close, but I can't fault the Super. for thinking outside the box.

I honestly feel for you who have school age kids, glad mine are grown.
