I saw a video that makes me want to add a green laser to my XD mod2 SC. I was shopping around and the green laser looks to run around $320. The identical set up in red goes about $160. It is literally double the price. Is there really that much difference? Have any of you run both and can testify to this huge price increase?

For a bore sight I would prefer green, but I don't think it makes all that much difference in daylight to justify paying double.

Having used both for work, green is the way to go for daylight use.

It is worth the expense for what I use it for.

That being said I have a red laser on my night stand gun and see no need to upgrade.

Green lasers have three advantages over red that I know of. It’s easier to see in the daytime. It’s harder to see the beam from the side at night, and trace back to the source, so it doesn’t give away your position in the dark. And finally, a green laser will show up on a tv screen when red won’t, but since were discussing laser gun sights and not laser pointers, I don’t believe that one applies here. Whether or not it’s worth the price difference is entirely up to you.

I've been hunting a specific laser, so done a little testing recently. At 25 yards in full sun - my 5mw red laser takes longer to find on the target than it takes to dump a mag. At 25 yards in full sun - another 5mw green laser was immediately discernable and would have been useful as a quick aiming guide.

If stealth is a concern, I will not be firing up the Red Class IIIA that's currently mounted to my Sub2k. At the indoor range, it's plenty good to 25 yards, but it does draw an easily visible line in the air extending from my muzzle to the target.

It is true that greens tend to consume more power than red. And, it is true that both have substantial range in low light. Green is the now now color, so we're paying a premium to be current. Once we're all fitted with green, they will begin popularizing blue. I say this 'cause most folks use lasers as a low light sighting alternative, so red is plenty fine for most folks.

5mw is the most power that can be legally sold to consumers in the US. It's the Class IIIA spec. Class IIIB exists and I'm in the hunt for a Class IIIB Green that I can use for rapid targeting at 100 yards in full sun. I'll let y'all know when I have one in hand. Yes, I'll face the risk of burning holes in paper targets and the risk of bouncing the beam back into my eyes on reflective targets. My application is defensive/hunting so I'll really just need to get it sighted.

Green lasers are also more noticeable in humid conditions...

In daylight conditions, I will use my iron sites. I primarily want a laser for more difficult low-light situations.

I find the laser easy to see because it looks like a Spirograph on the target. I would never want the target to see how bad my hands are shaking to use a laser.
    ;)
That being said, the battery in the red laser lasts several times longer than my green.

I found a place selling the green laser with a holster that accommodates the gun with laser for $244. That made it easier to justify the added expense of green. I also noticed they sell my gun in a 45 cal also for only $359 right now.....I may have found too much.

I went hunting a few years ago with a guy who had a green laser on his rifle. Its like the pigs could not see it at all, and their eyes glowed green. Very odd. They didn't run till he shot. It could be the same with a red one, no clue. It just stood out to me on the green laser. Never seen anything quite like that.

Later with another group of pigs, a white flashlight made them scatter.

I'm color blind and most often don't see red. But the green laser is just perfect to see. It's really bright and you can see it at 25 yd.s in day light.
The battery is a 3v 2L76 and lasts about 1 hour.
It's a LaserMax and I got it for about $109.00.
