Because I have spent so long in IL I think I may have lost my mind. Truth is I am not familiar with many areas in Texas. Guess I need to do a little more research. Are you referring to Odessa itself or every city I mentioned? Do you have any recommendations? I appreciate your help!
Odessa is what he's referring to.
It's a desert with oil wells.
Lot's of money to be made. Lot's of traffic.
Mix in some bad hombres .
EZ is right. Jobs are out there.

I don't mind it here, because I can pick a direction and within a couple hours I can find beauty, but it's not for everyone. If you are looking for trees and water, you won't find it here. One thing I will say, is in the summer, although it does get hot, it is dry and easier for me to take, then around Austin or San Antonio where the humidity is stifling.
Also, I live about 20 miles outside of Odessa and most everyone here owns guns, so there is not often much crime out here.

Those guys are right. I was referring to the Midland/Odessa area. There’s nothing pretty here, you’re at least 3 hours from anywhere, and the wind never stops blowing. And those are the highlights.

Very true, it is a dry heat, which is really good until you cross 110, then it just sucks all the way around.

If not Midland-Odessa, I'll put in a plug for San Angelo. Still work here. Oilfield if you want. Construction trades are in demand too. Guess it depends on what kind of work you want to do.

I remember going thru Midland/Odessa several years ago during the last boom and saw a sign on the McD board that they were hiring counter help. Starting at $19/hr, locals said they had no takers.

At one point McDonald’s was hiring people without a driver license or vehicle for $16.50 per hour, and the McShuttle would pick them up for work and take them back home afterwards.

If you can swing a hammer or turn a wrench, you can get a job.
Downside? Finding a place to stay.
