Does anyone use Rem Oil on their precision rifle bore just as a preservative and lubricant before storage? I use Hoppe's 9 for a cleaner, curious if anyone stores their long gun with a dry bore or a lubricant such as Rem Oil?

I'll probably be in the minority, but I use RO after cleaning on all my guns. I have yet to see any issues with it. I will say that I will try to hit those guns with it at regular intervals when not in regular use as a single application will not last all that long.

Rem oil won't hurt it, but my preference is to only put bullets down the bore until accuracy drops off.

So it's not a "yes" or a "hell no".

What's storage? Like a week or two?

Exactly. How long of a storage are we talking about? Couple weeks or months? If it's just a few weeks or even a month, don't see a need to lube bore as long as it's cleaned before hand. If 2-4 months, probably if humidity is high. I would say lube for extreme long time storage, like 6 months or more. If the rifle is stored in a safe with de-humidifier(s), you should have to worry one way or another. I have a rifle that hasn't been shot in two years and there is no rust in the barrel and I have it sitting in a wall mounted gun rack.

I always oil my guns that will be in storage for more than a few weeks. If I'm lazy, I shoot through the oil too. I tend to use a synthetic oil (usually Hoppe's) for pretty much everything, but I use RemOil on occasion too.

I like how cheap rem oil is. Great for checking up on guns in storage and doing a wipe down. Especially on my rustington 870.

The older I get, the less I care about over thinking things. When I inspect my guns on the monthly or sometimes three months, I do inspect the bore. It's just knowing your weapons, what guns have lesser quality parts and finishes. Two extreme examples would be my 870 and my break open cva 20 gauge. They just don't have the best finish from the factory and get checked a lot in a year. On the other hand my arsenal sam7sf and my old stag model 1 need no attention at all in storage. If I do see something in the bore I just bore snake it with a super light coat of bore cleaner.

I got a gift package of Remoil from a friend a year or so ago. I've never used a lot of it before, just an occasional squirt from an aerosol can on a patch or two. I open a can of it and squirted some on a patch and it looked like rust or something very similar in the oil. Actually quite a lot of it...so I gave up on that can! There is a clear bottle of it too and it looks clear and okay. I think a guy could do a lot better for cleaning and preserving their firearms.

I use it liberally on my guns when I put them up short or long term. Some is gonna get soaked into the case or the towel I wrap it in and BEFORE I shoot I inspect, run a bore snake, more sure there is still a good coating of oil but not running-dripping wet. I do not use RO religiously but usually have some or another brand on hand.

Well, I live in a dry climate.
Unless an injection pipeline ruptures, I'm not prone to saltwater being sprayed on me nor my guns.
Honestly , I haven't seen rust on a gun since we had an evaporative air conditioner.

True. I don’t have any desiccant in my safe either. Haven’t had any rust issues since I left Corpus.
