And I think its unlikely we have boots on the ground. A few missles from the coastline is probably all it took.
If bombs are actually hitting their targets, then combat controllers are on the ground. We also have a handful of bases in Syria.

A few weeks ago a buddy of mine was deployed over there. He told me the mission would be to look for chemical weapons. Funny how this stuff popped up in the news right after her got over there.

I think Trump acting just like Obama in reference to Syria is a sign he's lost the battle with the swamp. I want 2013 Trump back...

    The Dan,

NOTHING odd about this: We've had SPEC OPS folks in Syria for at least 5-6 years. = The likely number being in the vicinity of 1500-2000 SM scattered over the whole country.

If the ground controller comment was referring to the recent strike, cruise missiles do not need controllers on the ground.

    If not, never mind...

Once you take office, you are briefed on multiple classified operations and states of affairs going on that the general public may never know about. This has been the cause to changes in thought as well as added stress for every president I can recall.

Not necessarily, but I won't go into any further details.

American troops landed in the ground war in Syria in late 2015 with a small contingent of Special Operations forces, and the Pentagon publicly admits to approximately 2000 personnel spread across the country at the moment. There is also a large, well-known FOB at Manbij in the north.

The US military is using more than 5000 contractors in the campaign to defeat the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, the Pentagon revealed in a quarterly report this week that acknowledged the use of contractors in the Syrian war zone for the first time. About half are US citizens, while the rest are local or third-country hires; and more than 400 “security” contractors are also involved in the fight in both countries.

That would be a hell of an information set to alter your principals, unless of course you didn't have principals to begin with. Trump obviously isn't a constitutional conservative so I guess this isn't unexpected; just disappointing since he's supposed to be different from the rest.

Fair enough. My experiences are a bit dated now. Still, it's incorrect to assume we don't have "boots on the ground".

Short term profit for some, sure. Real wealth comes from building.

None of us currently posting about this will have to worry about paying for it, but I wonder how all this money spent will affect my grandson's tax burden. What is he going to get out of it?

And if Syria/Russia/Iran were allowed to run amuck, how big a bill (or other impact) might affect your grandson down the road?

We'll be fine. Largest oil reserves in the world are just to the south of us, and we have plenty of resources ourselves.

If you're worried about terrorism you should leave Assad alone. Russia knows how to deal with terrorists and with their help Assad had pretty much defeated ISIS already.

It should be clear to everyone by now that westerners don't understand the middle east, and we should stop trying to "help". We need to mind our own damn business. We've got plenty of problems here to work on.

    Was not referring to oil.

    dmancarnell,

YES, Frank is competent to know what he was looking at, as were the Army ordnance & engineer troops, who did the actual destruction of the poison gas munitions.
(In case you don't know, full Colonels don't do actual destruction. - Frank was there as the official observer for JCS & to document that the mission was completed.)

Face FACTS:: You have NO clue about what you are prattling on & on about.

Incidentally, in case you haven't noticed, this forum isn't an "anti-gun rally". = You are looking evermore clueless & SILLY posting the nonsense/prejudices that you've inculcated.

    yours, satx

So his status there as literally an observer to sign off the execution of some task means he knows the details of the chemical components being processed as part of said task? Hilarious. Do you even understand why some chemicals have expiration dates?

Since when do ordnance and engineer troops have chemistry qualifications? Did Frank have a degree in physical or organic chemistry? No? Then he is not competent enough to know what he was looking at, and I couldn't care less if he were a 5-star general. Rank does not confer specific knowledge.

The fundamentals of debate apply to both an anti-gun rally or this forum, or any other platform. A sure sign of a losing argument is citing popular support for one's argument. That means you're losing, no matter how shrill your insults get.

The Syrians have weaponized chorine gas, Sarin, nitrogen mustard, Lewisite, homemade/"crude clones" of VX/BZ & (likely) a huge quantity of "Yellow Rain", that they got from Saddam's war criminals.
(The Mossad believes that many of "Chemical Ali's subordinates" are now working for Syria.)

As a graduate of 7th Army NBC School (of long ago), my GUESS is that the "unidentified lethal agent", from the published effects on the victims, was PROBABLY chlorine, mixed with the "clone" of VX.

    yours, satx

Do you have any proof for any of this, or is the whole thing just a GUESS?

And why would chlorine be mixed with VX? VX lethal dose is only slightly higher than a dose having no effect at all, so what would be the point of mixing in a respiratory agent? VX poisoning would render the effects of chlorine pointless. Explain how you came to your conclusion from the published effects when VX will kill the victim before the chlorine takes effect.

Or maybe this clone VX is just really terrible so they had to mix it with other agents to increase its potency. Oh wait, that's not how chemistry works. :)
