Leaving this libtard state of NY. Took a job in the west Ft. Worth area and will be looking for different digs. Would like a small house of some acreage (doesn't everyone), what locale should I be looking in? Any inputs are welcome. Thanks.
If you want to have some acreage and don't mind a little commute, you can check Wise or Parker County properties. They will be the less costly option than staying in Tarant County.
Will be looking for shooting ranges too, especially rifle. Believe it or not I shoot from the house here in NY. Best deer and turkey hunting is off my front porch. Anxious to learn the hunting in TX, how prevalent are hogs?
I live in the mid Southern part of Wise County and my wife works in Fort Worth (Meacham Airport). She commutes 26 miles but at rush hour it takes about 45 minutes each way.
My buddie lives in the Springtown area of Parker County and it is a little more crowded (like the other surrounding Counties).
As long as you buy land in unincorporated parts of the County, there are little restrictions on discharging firearms.
As people move into these areas, the cities like to ANNEX the land and add you to the TAX BASE.
The trick is to live in a place far enough away from the city limits!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the distances and regulations about how far you need to be away from buildings etc are on this page. Yes, I think it takes three or four readings to fully understand it.
I live in Fort Worth and Azle is 5-10 minutes from me. I think it's still its own city, I dunno.
OP, if I didn't just buy this home, I'd probably look into Decatur. Good acreage and not too far from big city stuff. Haslet is nice too, but prices are climbing.
Most people at this point are starting to migrate to Rhome
Weatherford/Aledo area is good, could also look a little farther south to Granbury. Some good ranges in the area as well, I prefer Defender Outdoors in Fort Worth personally.
Big day for me today. Gave notice of termination of employment, put the house on the market, passed my pee test and the background check said I am not a fugitive, a terrorist or otherwise wanted by the law.
About ready to give Gov Homo the one finger salute.
Azle is still it’s own city. It has grown from just under 10k about 10 years ago to 13k. Tarrant count, Parker County will have larger property taxes because of the colleges.
Wise county is a good bang for the buck property tax wise.
If you head out Azle way, stay away from Pelican Bay and Reno.
If you like to fish, Eagle Mountain Lake borders part of Azle.
Took me 3 days to pack my reloading room and my gun stuff. Now I'm working on the garage. It's amazing how much stuff one can accumulate when living in the country.
Moving is not fun.
Hopefully the life change will be worth the effort. This will be my last professional adventure before I retire.
I want a home shooting range, a large pergola, and an outdoor kitchen.
moved out to ft worth for work 5 years ago at meacham airport, no jobs in illinois. do know of a place about 30 minutes south of here on some land where there is NOT ONE teenage range officer to bug ya, landowner asks for 10 bucks donation everytime i go out there or its 75 a year. blow shit up too. pistol range is 33 yds...rifle range...farthest i took it was about 400 yards.
Last day of work at the old job was yesterday. I feel good about leaving it but I will miss some of the people. New job is at Elbit Systems of America on Marine Creek Parkway so I will be analyzing commutes from potential homesteads.
