    Friends,

As some here know, I had to sell my "near new" S&W Shield, due to my ever-increasing "issues" with my hand-strength.

This PM, I was offered an "as new" Beretta Nano 9mm at an excellent price. (It was traded in on an expensive target pistol 24APR18.)
And I can "rack the slide" without difficulty.

That said, I've NOT even held one of the little Nano pistols in my hand. - Do any of you own/shoot a Nano OR have fired one extensively??

I solicit your PRACTICAL knowledge of the pistol, rather than a regurgitation of You-Tube videos or gun magazine articles that you may have watched/read.

    THANKS, satx

In the event the Nano doesn’t work out...
As an another potential option, the Walther CCP has a gas blowback system, so the recoil spring is light and the slide is very easy to rack as a result.

Or a Glock 42 with a slide charging handle. They have different styles. Finger loop or a sideways hook.

    Here's an example,

If you were having problems racking the slide on a Shield then I dont see where a Beretta Nano is going to be any better

I owned a Nano and sold it.
They are designed for with slim, smooth surfaces for easy CC
Not much to grasp when you rack the slide

I had one and liked it. It's smaller than a Shield which makes it a little harder to manipulate, but not by much. I was impressed with it's overall compactness. You can check out a comparison here: https://www.texasguntalk.com/threads/pocket-nines-a-visual-comparison.51382/

I sold my Nano after deciding the P938 was my favorite.

    TheDan,

I never could hit a blooming thing with the P38. - I'm glad that somebody likes that pistol.
(When I was stationed OCONUS long ago, I was once issued a P38 & ended up buying/carrying my own handguns & returning the P38 to the armory.)

    Yes, yes and yes.

I don't find it particularly easy to rack the slide. There's not a lot to grab. I never have any trouble with it but I'm simply saying it doesn't strike me as notably easier than anything else.

The trigger pull is long. That doesn't bother me but it sure bothers some people.

The butt is way too short for my hands. Without extended magazines, I'd never shoot the thing. With extended magazines, it's a completely different gun, one I like very much.

I've never had a malfunction of any kind but I've never fed it crap ammo.

The manual of arms, given there's no slide release lever, is a little different. If you want to lock the slide back on an empty gun, you'll get into the habit of inserting an empty magazine and pulling back the slide.

Whether or not accuracy is acceptable is up to you to decide. I don't expect to ring steel plates at 100 yards unless they're 4' x 8' but, up close, I find that the shots land close enough together.

Starting with worst case, I've shot it quite a bit offhand at 25 yards and I can hold ~10 inch groups. They tend to be a little left and well below the point of aim. This is crap results for any decent target pistol but completely acceptable to me for a tiny, flat carry piece. If I had to shoot someone at 25 yards, I think I could get a couple of hits but judge for yourself with this casual 10-shot group at that distance. You'll just have to take my word for it that no shots were off the paper.

Some informal shooting results at a more normal distance are more satisfying. According to my notes, this was 28 rounds fired as quickly as I could re-acquire sights at 7 yards. For our local high-speed, low-drag operators, that would amount to a leisurely pace. For me, it was pretty fast. At the time, I had no extended magazines and I know I could have done better if I had been using them.

    As always, YMMV.

    Hope this helps.

My mother has had a very difficult time racking the slide on most guns.. She's 4'10 and over 70... We got her a P238 that's worked really well... If you're needing 9mm I'd check out the P938.

I have owned Walthers for almost 60 years, several of them, and always have great difficulty hitting anything with them.
