    Legitimate question.

It's cold now, so I have on jammies (yeah, I said "Jammie's). But if it's not cold I'm butt nekkid. I keep a pair of jammie bottoms out just for this purpose.

If I have to deal with anything, I don't want Big Jim and the twins swinging around exposed. I've had to go outside before. And my neighbors all have cameras. No free shows.

And I'm headed in the direction of the issue, whatever that may be. The wife is phone in hand in case a call to nine eleven is in order.

Assuming no other innocents in the house. Take a good defensive position and just listen for a bit.

Odds are (granted not 100%) if someone is in the house you will hear them. Then 911.

If no sounds after a while, then proceed to check things out with caution.

If you have window and door contact alarms, do you need the motion sensors on at night?

Not the house alarm, but one evening quite a while back the son's truck alarm started honking. We have a problem with people 'shopping' in our neighborhood, basically they walk in a group down the block pulling on door handles and stealing whatever is easy to take. I was up late working on the couch with the laptop (everyone else in bed), still dressed. I quickly but quietly (no lights) put on shoes, grabbed my PPX + Octane HD and a light, and slipped out the back door around to the front of the house. Took me about 20 seconds total but there was nobody to be seen. After standing around for a bit and listening to nothing but crickets, I pulled on his truck door handles. Still locked and everything looked to be where it should be. Never did figure out what set off the alarm.

You live in a 3-story townhome, it's midnight, and you're asleep in the master bedroom on the 3rd floor (along with your S.O.). Your home alarm goes off and jolts you out of bed. What do you do now?

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend. Haha...not really. Happened to me last night, and I realized my planning sucks. Thankfully, it was a "false" alarm...something fell in the 1st floor bedroom and set off the motion detector.

Also curious about one specific issue: do you disable the alarm so you can hear what the hell might be going on?
Shoot everything that does not live there.

. I currently have a puppy that is literally afraid of her own shadow. It's one of the funniest things I've seen.
