Hello! Moved from Thousand Oaks last year and finding ranges are tricker than one might think. Ended up at TDSA in Ferris.
Land is tricky too; no BLM land with free-for-all. Land is private, so buy some, or make land owning friends...
    I’m working on friends.
(Need boat friends too but that’s another issue)

You'll find out that many in TGT lose guns in boating accidents. If they were to ban AR's I will have to tell them of my unfortunate boating accident.

I know a couple of people who have land that I've shot on a few times. one is my brother in law's parents. and another is my girlfriends grandparents. But they wouldn't be keen on my just showing up every day to shoot on their land lol. I have to wait until other people are already shooting and then kind of invite myself... I wanna buy a small chunk of land maybe 4 or 5 acres and dig down about 10-15 feet a giant 100 yard hole so that I can shoot without worrying about my backstop. and of course i'd dig the hole on an angle so it doesnt get flooded with water when it rains.

Former Cali inmate here, born/raised in San Diego, escaped to Free America about 4 years ago. Have a group that does sporting clays and other range trips. PM if you're interested, and I'll give you a shout the next time we're heading out.
Oh nice! Sounds awesome, what ranges do you guys usually hit up

Fossil Pointe up in Decatur is a nice outdoor range. Pistol and rifle for $18/day. They had steel on both ranges but not the last time I was there. Regular rifle is 50, 100 and 200 yards. For $35 a day, they have a 800 yard range. FMJ not allowed on the rifle ranges.

I, too, escaped from Communist California recently. I have not found anywhere here like Angeles or Piru down in Southern California or the BLM land I used to go to outside of Las Vegas. Friends of mine here are members at ETTS but I'd like to check out some of the other private ranges for sure.

ETTS seems a little pricey and pretty far south.. If you want something a little closer to the metro you can try TXgunrange which is between mansfield and midlothian on 287.. believe membership is 15 a year (or 10) and then 10 or 15 a visit... they hav ea pistol range and then 25 50 and 100 yard rifle ranges.. theyve never cared about what ammo I use except no tracers or incendiary.

Thank for the info! I was planning on checking out TDSA as well, I talked to the owner a couple months ago over the phone. Any of you guys go there?

I used to be a member at TDSA years ago and really liked it. Only reason I'm no longer a member is because I was finally admitted to a less expensive private range/club after being on a waiting list. At TDSA, you are your own Range Officer. You can draw and shoot from a holster, shoot while moving and do rapid-fire, none of which you're allowed to do at TXGunrange.com and most other public ranges in the area (not that I'm disparaging TXGunrange for that policy - I happen to like that range and go there from time to time due to how close it is from where I live).

However, to shoot at the rifle range at TDSA (I think it's a 200-300 yard range), you have to first qualify and answer certain questions to ensure you have an understanding of ballistics. Also, it's in a low-lying area (as are many other gun ranges) and close to, if not within, the Trinity River flood basin, which means it get a bit muddy when it rains and mosquitoes can get pretty bad there sometimes, but that's easily addressed with mosquito repellant. And if you're a chigger magnet like me, I'm happy to report I never got bit by any chiggers while at TDSA.

TDSA offers monthly matches, and for a fee, they even offer a shooting event where you can shoot targets from a moving UTV. I never tried that, but thought it was a fun option.

TDSA uses a bunch of recycled tires for backstops and berms, which I thought was genius. According to the owner, the tire walls can supposedly stop a .50 cal round, too, but I wouldn't know as I don't have anything that shoots .50 cal.

When I first joined TDSA years ago, the annual membership fee was somewhere around $250, which I thought was reasonable. I understand price has gone up, though, but I don't remember how much it is now - maybe $350/yr? By comparison, ETTS is around $600/yr last time I checked, but then again ETTS offers a much longer 1000+ yard rifle range if you're into really long distance shooting.

Colion Noir of youtube and NRAtv fame has some videos he filmed while at TDSA.

Anyway, if I weren't already a member at another club/range, I'd probably still be a member at TDSA.

Man that sounds like an awesome club, I wish I lived farther east. I live in the Burleson area and TDSA seems about an hour drive for me one way..... man I wish a club like that was closer to me.

Yeah, it seems like most folks have to drive about an hour to get to a range/club like that. As it is, the club I belong to now, Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club, is also about an hour from me. But it is what it is here in Texas, and especially so in the DFW metroplex area.

Anyway, since you're in Burleson, you might want to look into the Arlington Sportman's Club, or something like that. I'm not a member and have never been there, but I heard it's similar to places like TDSA and the Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club. Only thing is there might be a waiting list and you probably have to be sponsored by someone from that club before you can join.

I don't remember if it's been mentioned before, but there's also the range in Cresson, TX (forget the name at the moment). I've never been, though, and don't know how far away it may be from you, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Yeah, that's the one. I think they also host 10K Run n Gun competitions, which leads me to believe it must be a pretty big place with lots of land. I guess that may be why they're $1200/yr for their full membership, to cover the increase in property values/taxes with so many folks moving to North Texas these past few years.

Yes they have one steel range that goes out 2000 yards.
