Anyone ever have a stubborn plunger on their 1911? I'm replacing an extractor and I'm having hell getting it out. Firing pin and spring are out, need the plunger out next and its being a PITA. Don't want to beat on this thing too much but i'd like to get this gun working again.

Put it back together for the night, after 2 and a half hours of trying to get that pos out, I'm done. I'll mess with it again tomorrow. Nothing seemed to let the plunger out of the bolt. Tried wiggling the extractor back and forth to get it to drop out and nothing.

No its my old Taurus PT1911 again. The factory replaced the extractor a long time ago when it broke the first time. It broke again, so I bought a Wilson Combat extractor 80s model since that's what it is. The damn plunger would not drop out of the bolt not matter what I did. This is why I haven't bought a Taurus in almost 8 years. None of my other 1911s have this problem.

That was my thought too but since the plunger easily moves but doesn't come out I'm not sure what it would accomplish. I'll do it anyways though, no harm in trying. I'd like to get this gun fixed, I had special grips made for it and everything for my service in the army.

Depress the safety plunger and then push Extractor forward and reverse with a punch until plunger dislodges, remove plunger and then Extractor. This video should help!

Yeah I've tried that on that specific video with no luck. I'll freeze it today and see what happens as Dawico suggested.

I have the slide in the freezer right now. I'll take it out tomorrow and see if I can get the thing out of there. They machined this thing to such tight tolerances that the firing pin stop needs beat out with a punch and hammer. I figured after I busted it loose the first time it would be easier this time.

Weird, I always remember being able to take out the extractor on my Kimber no problem.
I'd just keep their plunger depressed, rotate the extractor while pulling it out.

I wonder how the Taurus is different

I'm going to take the slide out of the freezer this morning since weather ruined my range day. I will see what happens. But basically, the thing has been machined to such tight tolerances, at least from what I have fiddled with, that nothing budges without a hammer.

You could also blast the specific part with some upside-down compressed air.

That gets things gut'n'kold as the Germans would say.

I've never had a problem getting the plunger out. Hell, the problem is to keep from losing it. I don't own a Taurus, but have Colts and S&W 1911 pistols with the plunger.

Seems like something must be wrong with the channel for your plunger.

I've watched that already many times. I just took it out of the freezer and wailed on it with a hammer to no avail. Some of the area around the bolt is slightly chipped now from me beating on it trying to get the extractor and the plunger out. I figured if I beat on it the plunger would let go and either break and get a new one or simply fall out. I'm done with this piece of shit gun. It's why I will NEVER buy another Taurus again, this one and my .40 I used to have are both nightmares. I put all the parts in plastic bags and chucked it in the corner of my closet. The most it will ever be is a shelf piece.
