I think this has been posted already but is still a great story. The video is long but well worth it. I've loved the Blackbird since I heard about it as a kid.
I was going to say that the photo in post #3646 looked like Shul's work.

For folks who are just interested in The LA Speed Story, it starts at 55:26.

Somebody did a beautiful job with the blower installation, not to mention everything else.
I did all the fabricating. Put the blower lower and closer to the bike than the original kit.
Built the swingarm to get a 200 series Avon tire under a stack softail frame. Made the spacers to move the primary and trans. over to clear every thing. Ran a chain for more clearance and to with stand the enhancements.
Engine was a set of S/S wheels/cases with Sputhe hugs. 104"s. Jerry Branch prepped heads. Danny Crower spec ground the camshaft. Trans was filled with Andrews parts. Rivera clutch.
    Edelbrock plate Nitrous system.
MTC air shifter. On board compressor to keep it charged. Not on the bike when this pic was taken.
PMC brakes. I like to stop.....:)

This was my son and I's toy for a few years. He got married and when she got pregnant there was no more racing. I called it my little sportster. Had a lot of fun with the big twin guys who figured they could outrun any sportster, of course that was before what I had was discussed. Not many big twins run in the 9's at 140. Started as a sportster, bored cases for larger jugs. and longer stroke. 3 13/16x 5" got 113 CI. S&S SuperD, custom heads running 16-1 compression, andrews cams. Tranny was all back-cut and hardened. PMC brakes stopping an 11" MT slick on the back. We used a big truck starter on 24v to start it. Air shifter with shift points at 7500 RPM.

Putting the big cubes on top of sportster wheels makes for a serious monster.

This is a much younger version of me. This was as fast as I have ever been in the quarter mile on 2 wheels.
We built the entire bike. The body is a Dave Schultz out of his molds. This one is glass. His were Carbon.
KZ based engine. 1440 CI with the MTC crank/cylinders. With my 190 (at the time) on it 8.05 was my best.
With my 140 insane bike riding buddy on it 7.90's.

Nice. About the time we were getting it sorted out and figuring out what we were doing we had to quit. Oh well, it was fun....
After the bike I was so involved with racing at a pro level (crew) I had no time with Family work and the racing efforts. I started riding on the street again and getting into custom Big Bore V-twins.
This is a 1984 Willy G That we sliced up and reconfigured. 96"s and pretty fast for its day.
