    Deep thoughts

I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking.

My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing, and I said, "Nothing." The reason I said "nothing" instead of saying "just thinking" is because she then would have asked, "About what?"

At that point I would have had to explain that men are deep thinkers about various topics, which would lead to other questions.

Finally I pondered an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts?

Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts, but how could they know?

Well, after another beer, and some more heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with an answer to that question.

Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby, and even though I obviously couldn't really know, here is the reason for my conclusion.

A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child."

On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, "You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts.

Getting kicked isn't bad. I recently had a kidney stone that landed me in the ER. Each time the pain hit, it was 5 to 6 hours of feeling like someone was CONSTANTLY squeezing my nuts. They claim even most women state passing a stone like that is worse then labor. I had 4 of these 6 hour sessions over 5 days. BP was 210 each time and if you asked for all my guns...I'd given them to you to make the pain go away.

I concur . . . and have had four bouts with kidney stones to prove to me the TRVTH of the matter.

I dunno, but my body made some kinda natural pain management thing happen to where I was in an altered state of consciousness (you can tell by the look in my eyes, I have a picture of that zoned out face, no meds involved).

It doesn’t hurt that bad, not for me.
but I think my lack of extensive pain was unusual, maybe because I always told other ladies, that I just don’t get all the fuss. Back labor kinda sucks though. I remember that husband did pretty good with jamming his thumbs in on both sides of my spine of the lower back, that helped a bit.

    In the woods...
I had it in my ankle and actually considered amputating my own foot to relieve the pain.

I've had broken bones (leg and ankle) and a burst appendix and they pale in comparison.

I've heard kidney stones are just as bad.

I had just a touch in my younger years and I did everything I could to get on top of it. The mere beginnings of it were very bad; if it had gotten as bad as it can I would have felt the same as you - considering amputation.

This has become a disturbing thread. I am reminded that there are way too many things in this world that can hurt way too much.

I've had both, and kidney stones are right there with gout IF it's in a bigger joint like an ankle.

The big toe gout is bad, like an 8 or 9... but stones and gout in the ankle are my new 10. Like you, I was putting amputation out there as an option when it got in my ankle.

Chronic back pain that radiates into the legs. I deal with it 24/7. If it weren't for my meds I'd be sucking a muzzle.
Not fun, thankfully gout (and stones) are acute flare ups... but when the pain gets to that level, there's nothing that will touch it that doesn't come from an IV. In both situations I was running a fever over 100 that was only due to the pain (no infection). My chronic pain is much lower- so I don't envy your condition.

My wife had our 3 kids naturally at home. I don't know if all women are like this... but she has a high pain tolerance. Still hurt her... but like you said the back labor sucked for her.

She is my queen.. and if I had to throw down with her... I'd be licking my wounds. lol
She's only 4'8"... but you know what they say about dynamite...

My Dad used to get gout... one day he was off work laying on the couch. I came around the corner and slapped his foot (13yr old not thinking). I have never seen that look in his eyes before. I'm surpised i'm still alive to tell the story. I'm 36 now. Still to this day I apologize to him for it.

I tell ya what helped him a lot with his gout. Cherries... Lots of cherry juice and cherry concentrate tablets.
