Perspective: in the first 10 years after 9/11, $635 Billion was spent by Homeland Security alone. That helped put 43,000 screeners to work at 440 airports, or about 100 employees per airport, screening about 2 million passengers daily.

There’s about 93,000 schools serving 50 million students daily. Let’s assume we harden up all those targets. What do you do about sports stadiums, parking lots, bus stops, and off-campus events?

We’re talking order of magnitude differences here.

More perspective: Since 1764, there’s been about 600 people killed in on campus shootings.

I get that schools should be safe, and I’ll argue that they are safer than we give them credit for. And I’ve got a daughter in her early 20s teaching in a public school in the shittier part of Austin.

Should something be done? I just don’t know. The only way we will see change is when behaviors change towards these types of events. We, as a whole, have to instill in them the four rules of gun safety; we have to instill in them it is pure evil that perpetrates the shitbags that do these things. We as a whole have to decide change starts with us.

I grew up in a street with 6 houses and 17 kids. All of us could take a gun out of the house and safely shoot it in the 400 or so acres that adjoined our block. And every parent on that street would beat our asses for doing so, and then turn us over to our parents for the ass second ass beating.

Funny story; we had BB gun wars all the time. First time someone was shot and it actually left a mark, we all beat the trigger pullers ass since we knew that our numbers were up when we got home.

And yes, we grew up taking shotguns for after school dive hunting. And nobody got shot, on campus or not.

I understand Chicago is a different animal, but city schools have had metal decorators and on duty police since the 80's. Sure it was to stop rival gangs from stabbing and shooting each other, but it worked

    .

One way to help curb the school shootings is for the media to stop plastering the little POS's name and picture all over the place. Instead of using their name they should call them something like 'the little piece of shit' or 'worthless little bastard'.

How about the media just reporting a shooting at anywhere with no mention of the names of the mental midget(s) responsible. List fatalities and later on their names. NEVER EVER give the name of the shooter. Then drop it. With no notoriety for the shooter things might slow down The 15 seconds of fame would die.

All this would do is prevent a shooter from entering.

Dude could just sit outside in his car and gun kids down as they left school.

All this shooting stuff makes no sense. Guns and schools have been around for hundreds of years, so why is this stuff happening so much now? The goal is to find the cause of this unthinkable evil.

This has been the preferred choice of Law Enforcement agencies for well over a decade. Many will refuse to speak the name of the suspect except in very limited circumstances. The idea is to NEVER give them the "fame" they crave.

John Noveskie made a post, shortly before he died that most (if not all) shooters have been on SSRI's. Parents say little johnny was sad the other day and some doc gives him anti depressants. Majority of the shooters are also bullied, they snap and go to the extreme. From someone who was bullied, I think one of the differences is these kids are not just getting bullied in school, but also on social media so they are getting hit 24/7

This. Psych meds are a huge factor. Also parents need to get their kids off social media and mowing the lawn.

Agreed! I think John wrote that in 2012, but hey at least some scientist are starting to catch up. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/he...s-raise-risk-of-committing-violent-crime.html The question is how much longer before US scientists say something, and FDA does something?

Just thought of something..Facebook and Twitter causes kids to get bullied therefore it must be banned ...does that type of logic sound familiar to anyone?

Ban it. Save the children!! No need though. Facebook will die off if people just wake up and realize they don't need it to be happy or talk to people. Dunno if people will snap out of it though.

As far as the fda, don't count on them. They are only around to approve or disapprove of what's safe. The cgmp's used in pharma manufacturing are from the 60's. A companies own sop's do more. All they care about is record keeping in case a batch or lot is recalled and cgmp's were honored. If the government forces their hand they just typically raise the allowed level of whatever it is in question. I know from experience. I spent 6 years dealing with them. Their kind of worthless.

I agree, I was on fb for a short time to keep tabs on sales with Primary Arms, SOLGW, Beretta ect, and if SOLGW was hiring. Decided to dump the account 2 years ago.

Stupid question, but this kind of sounds like something the FDA should look into ..showing SSRI's are not safe :) So basically it would take an act of Congress to do something about SSRI's? And if that is the case not sure we can count on them to do anything because most of them are in the pocket of big pharma. The FDA does seem worthless. I found something a while back showing they approved a drug that was mislabeled during testing..and the label was never fixed. also found this http://healthimpactnews.com/2013/fda-approves-dangerous-and-worthless-cholesterol-drug/

Oh wow. A label not fixed...huh. I don't know what to speculate. I don't know what to say on that one. Label issues require all batches with that error be held. Held, not even released. With cgmp's, even simple stuff like...bio patch pads ( for catheters), or suppliments even have a hold period before they get the final ok. That's weird.

So...my opinion is a mix of my own work history (I'm no one special) and my dad who is someone special. What I can tell you is congress needs to put the hammer down on big pharma. These people don't care about anything other than money. The sick need to stay sick so money can be made. Synthetic drugs are horrible too. Its why you see tv ads with symptom warnings. Like...if you experience bleeding out of your peehole, contact a dr right away. All for treating something mild, right? Lol. Big pharma probably knows about a lot of effects these drugs have and my own conspiracy theory is their allowed by the government to pull this shit. Its not out of the realm of reality to say some deep state operation wants more school shootings. Anyway.....I was lucky enough to travel with my dad at a young age and see the world. Hang around meetings and meet high level people on simple camping trips. I can tell you even in the mid 90s universities had a great understanding at altering proteins (DNA manipulation). The concept of immunity to diseases was not out of this world. Big pharma and the government always...and I mean always block independent development. The recent pacific trans trade thing in past years...there's actually language in it that bars universities and small time players to bring drugs and treatments to the market.

Moving to Texas, I'm already pissed I have to deal with yearly vehicle stuff, road tolls, sales tax and I'm sure other fees. Fees fees and more fees. In oregon there is no sales tax, reg. Is every few years, no deq, no tolls, but if you want anything back in taxes you're getting raped at 23 percent state income tax. Sorry for rambling. You just used the t word and I got all pissy. Lol.

I can see it now. Even if the tax hike for this wasn't that bad the libs will somehow fight it and see the only option to make our kids safe is give up our guns. *looks around for grasshopperglock to get in on his jokes*

Oregon plates are good for two years. If you live in a metro area you have to go to DEQ to be inspected. There's no sales tax but there is a 9% or higher income tax. If you live in Portland there's the Art tax.

You're not forced to drive on Toll roads here. At least we have roads here in Texas. Oregon hasn't built a new freeway in how long?

Hunting and fishing licenses here are MUCH cheaper than Oregon. You're also allowed to take more than one deer. You can fish with as many rods as you want without having to pay extra for it.

I'm a 100% disabled Veteran. Texas, for me is a much better place. In Oregon I got a free hunting and fishing license but still had to buy all the other tags and endorsements. I had free plates on one vehicle. I received a 6% discount on my property taxes. That's about it.

Here in Texas I get a free Super Combo Pack for hunting and fishing. All I need to buy is a Federal Duck Stamp if I want to hunt waterfowl. It runs me $3 a year for one vehicle and my 3/4 ton truck is about $70 a year. I pay no property taxes, I get a free drivers license and discounted LTC. I don't have to pay any income tax either.

Let's not get into the much lower cost of living here in Texas.
