I agree. I spent some cash last tax return and bought some home gym equip from rogue fitness. Pricey but I can simply walk out the door and work out.

I've been working out at home for a long time.

    Gyms aren't for me.

I work out to stay in shape, I don't want others around to distract me.

I can relate to that. I went to Sam fit in Oregon and I swear this guy was juicing. He got mad one time cause...who knows? Wasn't happy about his reps? Screams, walks to the bathroom, screams again and I can hear him kicking the trash can.

I always buy the 2 year 24 Hour Fitness membership from Costco for $399. It just went up to $429 for two years but that's not bad ($17.87 per month) and you can use most of there gyms.

The cheaper the gym, the larger the crowds, especially at prime time.

We had an LA Fitness $30/mo membership. Too many crowds, too many people waiting for equipment, and the locker rooms smell sour.

Just upgraded to include their signature clubs for an additional $10/mo.

So far the crowds at the signature club are manageable and I’m not waiting for equipment if I do need to go at prime time. And the locker rooms are quite a bit cleaner.

Probably mine but I joined 2 decades ago. 24hr Fitness any gym for $109/yr with tax.
Home Gym doesn't work for me. I don't like working out at home if I can avoid it.

We had a family membership to 24 hour fitness, purchased around 30 years ago.

I don’t recall the initiation fee, but we paid a total of just under $3/month to maintain it for my dad, sister, mom and me.

We finally let it lapse a few years ago, because all of the newer clubs were “premium” clubs so basically there were few places left to use it.

I wouldn't go to a well equipped gym if it was free.

You still have the inconvenience of getting there, waiting for some douche-bag to finish on the piece of equipment you'd like to use after he finally quits b.s.ing and leaves a sweaty mess and who knows if he/she some communicable disease, and worst of all: Hordes of....people....shudder....

I get my determination from packing the backpack. If I waited till I got home tonight I would not work out. Of course my job gives me the flexibility. A sweaty machine is not too common and I go at off times to avoid the crowds. My hang up is usually cleanliness of showers. People are pigs. I don't touch the walls and pretend I am building up my immune system.

Senior Citizen Center. Pool, gym, yoga, and other activities 10 a year for a membership. Met some good folks there that like to hunt and fish as much as I do.

If you’re an old fart a senior center is an option for those that meet the age criteria. There are lots of facilities in suburbia throughout the state.
