My EDC knife is a Spyderco Manix2 with G-10 grips. Its larger than I had wanted, but I've gotten used to it. I use it a lot, and it keeps an edge for a very long time. I've had it for almost a year and have sharpened it twice.
    Good luck in your search.

    Cheers!!

I love these threads. There are so many options and variables. I pulled a SOG Aegis and a Kizer Frame lock out of the drawer to carry for the week. I have about 50 in the drawer and that doesn't include the old school pricey items. I mostly favor frame lock flippers with ball bearing action to open with either hand. 3.25-3.5 being a good blade length

This is the knife I have carried for the last five years. It's not a thumb assist, but opens about as easy as a switchblade with but no button. Very high quality and being carbon fiber (handle) is very light. Not cheap, but well worth it. I can hold something in one hand, pull it from my pocket, open, cut easily, fold and put back in my pocket all with one hand:

Having carried both fixed and folders over many years and then somewhere back in there a GF gave me a Swiss Army knife. Well I told her I loved it but in fact it weighs in at nearly a pound and has more blades n stuff than Lindsay Lohan has been stuck. Somewhere its stuck in a box along with a plethora of leatherman and the likes that I have never used. But it did give me pause to think. The concept of the Swiss Army/Leatherman is good, problem is there is to much junk. Then I discovered the Leatherman Skeltool CX

    https://www.leatherman.com/skeletool-cx-19.html?cgid=multi-tools#start=1

What I like about it is that it does not a a 1000 functions. Knife, pliers w/wire cutter, phillps and flat blade screw driver, has a belt carabiner which is also a beer opener, weighs only 5 oz, blade is 154CM steel. I love the thing and its a RARE day that I don't use it for something. Its been my EDC for about 10 years and I will never go back to a single blade knife again. This thing is too useful to ever switch back. Especially when I am out on my place and the barn and shop is a long walk to to get a screwdriver or a wire cutter.

If you have the need its the way to go!

My 3 Kershaw's have lasted 10+ yrs. I dropped one and the plastic bit that holds the tip of the knife broke. I emailed Kershaw and they sent me the parts plus other replacement screws I didn't need. Another survived a motorcycle wreck when I slid ~50' with just a scratched up clip.

I hate these threads. They make me want to go out and buy more knives.

I have gone from bigger and more expensive folders to the cheap kershaw shuffle. Only thing I don't like about it is its edge retention. That's ok though. I keep up on my edges.

Why am I ok with such a small knife? Size and weight. And most of the time I'm out I'm with my truck. I have work gloves, a saw, rope, an e tool, water packets, fire starters, flares, rain gear, and basic tools.

This is my EDC carry as well along with a Style CS. Small scissors and a tiny blade come in handy in nonpermissive environments.....

All comes down to what a person wants in a knife. When I was working as a weldor (not teaching it) I carried a SOG multitool, but I probably used the needlenose pliers more often than the knife blade. Now I'm not often far from a toolbox and my knife is just that.

I keep these three on the main rotation. i carry the HK Ally at work when I'm wearing jeans and want something super slim and minimal, the green HK assisted folder is also another work knife, and ZT Titanium is all other duty.
