More than one way to skin a cat. (Dang it, I was gonna refrain from commenting in this thread).
But, there's 101 things to do with a dead cat.

I have not seen the black cat in the backyard since day one.

Had all kinds of birds back there today.
Seems odd to have red-headed woodpecker on the ground going after seeds.
Had more dove today than we have ever seen before .

We've had a bunch of cardinals, robins and even white-winged dove this year. Don't recall seeing them this far north before. (DFW).

I'm going to try the airsoft gun on the squirrels. Those bastards rule that feeder when I'm not around.

    They are amazing acrobats.

I woke up to one of those a$$holes on the feeder today.
I put more seed for them (squirrels) out on the ground to keep them off it, and the bastard was really persistent. Took 2-3 good hits to keep him off the feeder.
Lots of the birds, especially the dove, prefer feed off the ground.

I've noticed that. The cardinals won't eat off the ground, but the blue jays and dove seem to prefer it.

I'm sorry, cats are pets too. This is almost like saying; " these female children keep coming around, I must kill them, I only like boys".

There are other ways to handle this, ( like TALK to your neighbors. ) I had an outdoor cat for about 15 years, he wasn't tolerated by the neighbors, he was beloved.
Cats do NOT have the RIGHT to be outdoor pets--especially when they won't be kept on your property. Keeping them indoors they will never suffer feline leukemia. You're a piss-poor owner for exposing them to that danger.

Believe it or not, in one city I worked for, the leash law was equally-required for both cats AND dogs. That's right--walking cats on a leash. Fair is fair.

We had a hell of an issue with pet cats and Ferrell. The girls in my avatar live in the house we own next door. Common back yard. Pool/swing set/decks and a sand box that any kid would love to play in. Until the freaking cats start shitting in it.
I did the live trap thing for about 10 of them. That pretty much cleaned out the pets and a few Ferrell. Then it was just Ferrell cats. Nasty tempered and aggressive. They were dealt with in a more positive way.
Now we just have Possum/ground hog and rabbit since the cats have been removed. Just can't win.

Anyone know, without a doubt, if cats are like dogs in that there is a leash law?
It goes city by city. Some (few) cities pass such an ordinance while others do not. One small town out in BFE where I worked did have such a leash law which included ALL pets.
