I own a Walther P99... The Canik trigger(S) are lighter and more crisp IMO.

There are many features that were borrowed from the P99 but I think Canik refined the operation, made it better, and more affordable. Reliability has been excellent so far, and I like the Warren Sights on the Elite. I have not experienced any failures of any kind. Like many of you I own more than one: TP9SA, TP9SF, and the TP9SF Elite.

Are there better, slicker, fancier, flashier, expensive handguns out there... yes. But at this price point $300+ they are the front runner for best budget pistol on the market IMO.

Weird. The original that was copied by Canik, i.e. the Walther P99, if you press the decocker, the trigger goes into double action and pulling the slide back about a quarter of an inch, it's back into single action.

If you're hard up for money but still want a high quality handgun of this style, get the Magnum Research, available as MR9/MR40 (I'll give you three guesses what caliber these are in and the first two guesses don't count.), and in 4 and 4.5 inch. Same price point as the Caniks, uses actual Walther made grips/receives and American made slides and barrels.

I've NEVER had any malfunctions with any of my three Canik pistols--including my TP9SF Elite. I've seen some of those videos but that's not my experience. :meh: I didn't buy my Caniks because they're inexpensive, nor are they the only pistols I own. I've got at least a dozen HK pistols, a half-dozen Sigs, a half-dozen Glocks, etc. I like a lot of different pistols and the Caniks fill a niche for me. I don't own a single Walther pistol, and as far as I am aware, it was only the very first couple of Canik models that were "copies" of the Walther P99. But even if they are a copy, that doesn't mean the decockers are the same.

I might be a bit stubborn, but you couldn't give me a modern Walther pistol.

EDIT: I thought about it, and I do own a 60's mfg Walther P38.

    That's a shame.
I also own many HKs, and many Glocks.
My Walther PPQ M2 Navy is my favorite gun currently.

    ETA: I don't think I've ever held a Canik.

Make no mistake, Canik's are great. Typical prices on the TP9SA were as low at $299 6-8 months ago but they have crept up since then due to their popularity in my opinion. Now the TP9SAv2 and TP9SF typically sell for $359 and up. The TP9SFX was available for a time for $429, 459 area. Great price.

Typical Walther PPQ 4" prices have been $525-575, PPQ 5" 575-625 and Q5 700+. Now, some PPQ models with the paddle release (which are much less popular than button release), are being moved with great price reductions ($469 to $499). Great pistols, great prices. Would I pay $40-50 more for a Walther? Heck yeah, especially if I wanted a paddle mag release. You won't find the button mag release PPQs that cheap.

The Caniks still have a $50-250 price advantage over the Walther PPQs and are absolutely comparable and in some cases have advantages over the PPQ.

And yes, I own both :)

Smith & Wesson vs Colt is like Ford vs Chevy. Both are choices on a personal level and you can't really go wrong with either, just a matter of taste. Walther vs Canik is like BMW vs Shuanguan. ;)

Dunno, those prices are kinda gunbuyer.com exclusives. There's also a few exclusive models there, like the five inch PPQ M1 that you can't get anywhere else.
