Welcome to this forum. I too left CA in 2003 and came to the Houston suburb area. The only recommendation I have for you is to embrace your new home and new living and forget about all the CA standards of living.

Welcome to the forum from a recent escapee from Maryland, a state striving to be "California East." From your description of your politics I think you'll feel right at home in the greater part of Texas but may feel you never left Cali when listening to some fools in Austin. I'm still in the process of adapting to Texas and loving most of it (except for scorpions.) I hope you find yourself slowing down and starting each day with "Thank God I woke up in Texas."

On the subject of training, I took my LTC class with Michael Cargill of Central Texas Gunworks. It was an enjoyable and informative class, although the classroom and range portions were in different locations. I also took a Defensive Pistol course with KR Training in Mannheim. That was worth every penny and minute spent in class and on the range. I am pondering another course with Highlander Defense Consultants in Florence, TX. They seem to have good reviews and are closer to me than the 2.5 hour drive to KR Training.

Prove it. Your username belies your intentions.
Prove it? I'm choosing to move to Texas. I didn't apply to any California programs.

If you’re all for tradition, why not apply to that little school in College Station?
Because UT Austin's business school will open more doors for my career.

I've clearly underestimated the hatred for California. I hate it too, but I don't let that affect my view of Californians who live properly. There are tons of gunners and tons of conservatives in the state... We're just dramatically outnumbered.

I’m a fellow CA reject, er, transplant.

The inmates will ease up when they realize you aren’t “one of them”

    Enjoy your stay.
Some good peeps on this site.

Just tell everyone you know in CA that Texas is closed

I am only 2.5 years CA free and I still hate myself for being a Californian. You must repent and deny, my son. And coming from Berkeley isn't helping. Didn't you sell shrooms on Telegraph?

Nah, but I did go to football games armed, when it was legal. California had campus carry until a few years ago when we banned it.

I've clearly underestimated the hatred for California.

Hatred is a strong word; realize two things.

If you don’t go around telling people how you used to do it back there, nobody’s really going to care. As you said you chose to move here. Don’t mention California and everything will be okay.

More importantly, in the last 15 years the great state of Texas has grown in population nearly 45%. More than three quarters of that growth is due to people moving here from somewhere else in the US. That kind of growth brings societal and political changes that negatively impact Texas as whole and what it means to be Texan.

Just so happens that Californians emigrate to Texas at a rate greater than any other state, foreign or domestic. So yeah, there’s a reason we say Don’t California my Texas.

I get you can’t help where you were born, but the cultural divide should not be underestimated.

Actually, what we say is Don't Cali-fornicate My Texas.

Had to laugh - Cali-fornicate was actually a spell check option. LOL!

I’ve heard that before, but in the context of don’t get knocked up by or knock up, or practicing either with a Californian.

Kind of like friends don’t let friends Californicate.

In the early 1980s it was the great MICHIGAN migration. I thought Texas had changed car tag color to BLUE. I was performing 2 or 3 VI-30 out of state vehicle inspection forms a day in Dallas where I worked at an auto repair shop.

My wife worked for BNSF when they moved Minnesota headquarters in the 1980s to Fort Worth and all the employees that moved here from Minnesota said 'it was soooooo haaaaat'.

I kinda wish Refrigerated Air had NOT been invented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We would NOT have all these Pu$$v liberals moving here.

Maybe Global Warming will move all the carpetbaggers back to the NORTH??????

Still sounds like you're with them... (collective "we")

I learned in the Californication of Colorado what to look out for, how they run their long game...

I do not "we" with Coloradans... I am Texan
