USS Fitzgerald Collision Connected to Female Officers on Duty Who Were Not Speaking To One Another - Link

During the early weeks after the USS Fitzgerald was speared by a lumbering Philippine container ship, it was noteworthy that the captain and a couple of admirals were publically named, but not the actual officer in charge, the officer of the deck. (OOD) The other person who should have kept the Fitz out of trouble is the person in charge of the combat information center, the Tactical Action Officer. The OOD was named Sarah, and the Tactical Action Officer was named Natalie, and they weren’t speaking to each other!!!

Yeah, never before have male officers not screwed up royally. Oh wait, yes they have, pretty much the history of naval screwups have all been male-related until just recently.

Of course, the above story is completely unverified and comes from an anonymous source, apparently made public by another passive aggressive individual who does not want to be named.

    Recent events...
Let's see, the Vincents shot down a passenger plane. All males involved in the decision making process.
Cmdr. Bryce Benson charged with negligent homicide and dereliction of duties after he let his ship crash.
Cmdr. Afredo Sanchez, same charges for his ship's crash.
Cmdr. Scott Waddle sank the 191 ft Japanese fishing vessel by colliding his nuclear submarine into it. He got into trouble as well.

So men can't be trusted with ships, apparently.

In a remarkable coincidence, I work with the USNR O-6 responsible for PACFLT command climate surveys.

He and I were talking about this the other day. Gundecking/pencil-whipping/complacency is not gender specific in this case, or any other.

My last assignment, I was called in to replace a leader that allowed complacency to seep in so far that his own men called in a heavy-weight training munition to be dropped on their own location by the attacking aircraft.

Leadership sets the expectations to be met. That the TAC-O and the OOD were allowed to be complacent in their tactical responsibilities is just one of many expectations the boat’s leadership team set in place.

Jokes don’t have to be true to be funny.

Does anyone really believe a priest and a rabbi went into a bar together?

Women bring an emotional factor that men generally lack. Women can be some very vindictive individuals. More than once in my single years did I find myself dating a passive-aggressive and I always terminated when I did. Men generally want to sort it out face to face and open and that does not mix at all with the passive agressive.

I've been there when it happened. I have a buddy who's half Native American, half Russian Jew. He converted to Catholicism later in life. We were having a cigar event, back when it was legal to smoke cigars in bars in Oregon, and he invited his old Rabbi and his current Priest. They actually carpooled. Turns out they both played handball in the same league and knew each other quite well.
