Good move by Justice Roberts, he made the right CALL here.

I see what you did there...

After 23 years in the advertising industry, I’ll say this:
This is a move in the right direction, but it’s a very small move.

Smartphones are literally little spies, their primary function is a data-gathering device.

The fact that they can make and receive calls is secondary.

People love having the choice of millions of “free” apps.
If something is free, the product is you. More specifically, your usage habits and general privacy.

There’s a reason why a growing number of Silicon Valley privacy advocates have regressed back to flip phones...

    Yep.

And it is sad, that while the other conservative justices often complain of judicial activism of the left, in this case they themselves were arguing a judicial activist interpretation, stating overturning the lower court would hamper existing law enforcement techniques, as opposed to arguing a 4th amendment interpretation.

So when we need conservatives to be activists, they are on the wrong side.....

I have never had anything else.

Uh, I would like to point out-

It does not matter what type of phone you have. If it connects to a cell tower, your locations is tracked and recorded.

It is very hard to not be tracked. Your phone tracks you, your car tracks you, your toll tag tracks you, license plate readers you probably do not see you track you, your credit card transactions track you, all your posts are IP logged, etc., well you get the point.

I miss my StarTAC. I kept it right up until they killed that network. Yes, I realize that much more traffic can be much more efficiently handled now but, boy-oh-boy, do I miss the superior sound quality of the old network.

    Exactly right.

    For sure.
But location tracking is a very small percentage of the data a smartphone collects, versus a flip phone.

Basic flip phones do nothing but text and talk.

You are right and I won on that:

The girl I was engaged to, who lived with me, decided to go back to her old boyfriend. So I come home from an overnight trip and she and everything she had was gone from the house. She also took her car I had bought for her but was in my name and I was making the payments. I guessed she had gone back to him and I headed over to his apt to see if she was there. He too was gone. He like me lived in Ft Worth, but suddenly there is no trace, even her cell fone was not working (she had changed numbers) and she had quit her job. But she still had my Mastercard which she carried for an emergency.

So instead of canceling the card I let it ride. My MC bill comes in and there are 2 charges on the bill by her for gas, I wait and the following month there are 3 charges for gas and that makes 5 charges at the same gas station...way out in far N Dallas.

I map it and drive out there and as I suspected it was Apt complexes, I drove thru the parking lots about 3 am on Sun morn, nothing till I came to a apt complex that was gated. I climb the fence and walk all the way to the very back and there sits my car. I insert my spare set of keys and drive it home, wake up my buddy who brings me back to pick up my car I left.

About 11 that morning I get a call from her telling me my car was stolen. I said I knew that, she said how? cause I stole it. Monday I traded it in on a new Jeep.
