    If I've started this thread in the wrong place, mods should feel free to move it. It doesn't deal so much with working on the internals of a firearm as it does with refinishing the frame.

    Anyway, I have a Canik 55B clone of a CZ75B compact, on which the alloy frame's "Blueing" is flaking off. It wouldn't REALLY be the end of the world if ALL of it came off and the bare alloy frame remained. But I'm sure there are better fixes for this. I just don't what they are, nor where they can be found.

    Any Ideas?

    It is probably anodized and that is what is flaking off. Especially if it is an alloy (read Aluminum) frame. Cerekote or durakote or some other spray and bake finish would be the best bet.

    This. Cerakote if you are paying someone else to do it, duracoat if you want to try it yourself.

    Is there a "gentle" way of removing the remaining current finish before attempting "Duracoat"? If I absolutely RUIN this pistol, I'm not out a great deal of money, but I'd like to learn to do some of this, and I have a lot more time & patience than money.

    JUST NOW found the "Duracoat Learning Center" on the LauerWeaponry.com website. BUT, other suggestions and personal experiences are still most welcome!

    If you want to refinish it yourself, DIY at home, you can try duracoat and cerakote, you’ll need an oven for the latter.
    Preparation is key with any coating so make sure to sandblast the old finish to make any coating last a while.
    There are loads of videos on YouTube on both applications.
    I have done both and duracoat is probably the easiest and you can always redo it if you’re not happy with the results.
