I have heard the 22 pistols can be picky. Does anyone have experience with the Walther PPQ 22 in 4" or 5" as well as the Ruger MK IV? Pros / Cons

The Walther is made by Umarex, so getting it to cycle can be a crapshoot...

The Walther is more reliable but a little bit less accurate. The Ruger is a prissy little bitch that needs constant attention, but group sizes are substantially smaller.

I have never fired a Walther PPQ or a Ruger Mark IV. From the experiences I have had with 4 different Walther P22s and several Ruger Marks I would say go with the Ruger.

    Ruger gets my vote too.

I have a few MK IIIs that feed and shoot everything. Sometimes the first round out of the mag gave me issues but polishing the feed ramp fixed it.

Umarex is Walther. They own them. Just made in different plants. Get the Walther.

Umarex cycling issues are pretty common, for the .22LR pistols they make for a variety of brands.

Would you attribute this to different QC, or...?

They sure don’t run like Walthers do.

Walther pistols are made in a factory for actual guns in Ulm (antler proof mark), and Umarex products in Arnsberg, in a factory for toy guns (three crowns on a shield mark.)

Buy the Ulm ones, stay away from the Arnsberg ones.

Glad this topic came up. Im looking for a host and like the classic look of the mk but don't know anything about the reliability.

People are having VERY mixed results with the P22 and there were numerous revisions to make it more reliable. I feel I would want to stay away from them.
PPQ 22 seems fine, except for the atrocious sights. Be aware that the PPQ 22 only resembles the real PPQ M2 on the outside. Inside it's a straight blowback hammer fired pistol like a PPK or Makarov.

I've had my P22 for at least 6 years.
    Bought it new.
Fired it alot (relative) at first, then replaced it with a Victory as the host for my sparrow.
I also have a Ruger, no issues with it either, and have never cleaned it.
