WeWork, $19B company with 4,000 employees in the shared office space environment just announced and implemented a policy prohibiting red or white meat At company events and won’t reimburse expensed meals with red or white meat.

Curious how that’s going to work out for them.
They are a private company that values itself at $20 Billion. I am trying to get my head around this as companies like this have been around since the late 70's that I know of. Not sure about them. They are not meat eaters, that tells me a LOT!

All they have really said is that they are not going to pay for the meat that you eat. They said you can bring whatever you want to eat, including meat - "The company said employees are welcome to bring whatever food they want to work."

The fallacy in their policy is they won't be "saving" any animals as they think they will. Producers will simply adjust the number of live animals produced to meet changes in demand, if any. You can't "save" an animal that was never born due to cut backs in production.

The funny thing is the FALSE numbers of animals they think they are going to save by not paying for the employees meal. How many of the employee's are going to pay out of pocket for a burger, chicken sandwich or any other meat product the employees wants to put in their body.

I wonder how much it was motivated by the new tax rules related to meals and entertainment deductions?

Old tax law: write off pretty much any meals and entertainment as long as it was somehow business related. I know a guy that did all his deals on the golf course. Can't deduct any of it now.

New tax law: can only write off meals and entertainment when traveling away from home (50+ miles). So the three martini lunch with the execs are no longer deductible. Neither is treating a potential client to lunch.

Many companies have changed their policies on reimbursements for meals.

You old skeptic you. Do you really think someone could be trying to save the company some dollars by wrapping themselves in a "feel good" issue?
