I’m gonna be in the market for a new vehicle in the next year or so while I keep my titan as backup/camping/keep beating on it.

Having owned or operated the fallowing I stand by my ranking based on trust of reliability and durability (I’m hard on my trucks):

Toyota tundra current gen are number 1 imo. The second gen trucks are great trucks. If you find them used with low miles don’t be shy.

2, Nissan titans. I’ll get flack for this but after owning my first gen and seeing how it’s evolved, it’s been better than any Ford Chevy or shipping crate (dodge) and these trucks are a poor mans raptor or ram runner.

3, tie between ford and Chevy. I’m thinking of giving ford another try. My last one was an f250 2004 and I loved and hated it. Chevy is just Chevy. I don’t get excited but I don’t knock em.

4, shipping crates aka dodge. Sure is expensive Diesel engines that come in crates with a frame axels wheels cab ect.

I bought a cpo 07 tundra dbl cab. 5 yrs 90k problem free. Great engine and comfortable. I once got 19 just cruising thru the hill country. Otherwise 16mpg in the city/hwy commute or pulling a trailer to La. Traded it in to go back to a car. It held it's value extremely well. I still miss that truck.

Friends don't let friends drive gasser Nissan trucks. The Nissan Titan HD with the small Cummins® diesel is another matter. Great value and choice.

I disconcur with you about Ram trucks, but again, my choice is for the diesels. My last truck was a 1991 Dodge Ram D250 2wd w/Cummins. It turned 240,000 on the odo by the time I sold it. GREAT truck. My current truck is a 2015 Ram 1500 4x4 w/Ecodiesel. It's currently got 157,000 miles on it and is a peach. I bought it used and paid under $20k for it, so no, I didn't pay a huge price for the diesel option.

I am simply amazed at how far trucks (and truck tech) has come along in the last five to ten years. It's simply amazing. It used to be you'd buy a truck to work with and have a car to daily drive. Nowadays, it's a completely valid choice (and a comfortable one) to daily drive a modern pick-em-up truck. You're not settling for "less than" with a modern pick up--they're as nice as most/many auto choices.

Is the diesel Titan sorted out?
Early reports and reviews were less than kind...this Car and Driver long-term test was especially brutal:

My oldest son is 22, and drives an 09 Avalanche with 99k miles, that I bought for the 4wd because he’s in college in Amarillo. My daughter drives a 2010 Avalanche with 137k miles, which I bought when my company retired it as a sales vehicle. My younger son drives an 07 Silverado 1500 with 153k miles which was passed down from my older son after getting his 4wd. My wife was driving an 08 Tahoe for 6 years until we traded it in on a Buick LaCrosse. My previous work truck was a 2011 Silverado 1500, which finally retired at 285k miles, with a flat cam. Was it caused by the AFM? It’s hard to say after 285k oilfield miles. Now my work truck is a Silverado 2500 with a Duramax Diesel. I have owned nothing but GM since 1996, when I traded in my last Bronco. You might say I have some experience with Chevy Trucks. No major problems with any of them, and most have been driven way beyond 100k miles.

    TLDR: Chevy Trucks Good.

The Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon with the baby Duramax are two really good choices, if you're looking for a smaller pickup.

That’s a pretty sad review and surprisingly low performance from a diesel. No way I would trade my 04 in for one. My gas 5.6 runs like a raped ape and my truck is rated for 9500-10000lbs. Hell I don’t think I have pulled over 5k. That review sure makes my 04 seem pretty bad ass. Lol. My 04 is no slouch with 0-60. What a disappointing read on the Titan diesel. Gas wise I love these trucks.

I think an honest opinion on our trucks probably comes from our preventative maintenance. I suspect most of us here are into taking care of our rigs. I’m hard on my stuff and don’t care about cosmetics but I don’t let my engine tranny diff transfer case or my ifs/bearings up front go to hell. The real question is what’s the best rig for someone when we take care of it? I have faith my Titan will be running at 200k like plenty of Chevy 1500’s still out there. I’m currently at 105k with nothing out of the ordinary to replace

A buddy has one. I can't say much as I don't see him often but I can tell you it is loud.

Like late '90s diesel loud. Turn it off in the drive thru loud.

Have a a few I’m interested in on AutoTrader, dealers all over the country.

    Dealers suck.
I’m a cash buyer willing to wire money, will arrange transportation myself.

I’m practically begging to get someone to talk to me about buying a truck.

Pinged a dozen dealers, email and phone. Three generic email responses, one actual person who called me back. And she’s lazy. I told her I’m willing to wire her full asking price, it’s been a day since I’ve heard from her besides “been busy at the office will try to contact you later”.
    Really???

    Looking at 2015 models.
    Factory CPO
    4x4 5.3
    LT
Z71 preferred, but tow package, 3.42 gears and G80 posi will do.
    < 30k miles

Someone take my damned money so I can order my wheels and suspension already...

When people buy vehicles for cash. It's the lowest money making way of selling a vehicle.

On a used car. They buy it for around NADA trade in value or lower. Mark up is usually around $4000-$5000. Used cars make more money.

Now when you buy with cash. The dealer only gets a profit off the "front end" of the deal. The lower money area of the deal.

Dealers want you to finance it. The "back end" of the deal is where the big money is made. The amount they make off of financing makes the "front end" look low on profit. Plus other things they sell. Extended warranty, gap protection, window tint, glass etching.

When you pay cash. Your cutting the profit to the dealer by about 60-70%. You screw them out of their cut of the interest.

If I was you. I'd tell them, you want to finance it. Say some $hit like 6 years. Then the dealer's mouth will water. Don't give them a SSN to run credit. They'll beg for it over and over. Make up an excuse to do it in person.

When you get there. Play along. Go through the motions. When it's time to buy it. Tell them you changed your mind. You'll be paying cash. Strip the financing out the deal and list the total purchase price.

If you like the price. Buy the truck on the spot. Tell the dealer to phuck off and then drive it home....and don't forget to tell them not to sell your email. You don't want a bunch of happy horse$hit showing up in the end box.

Phuck you very much, Mr Dealer. Goodbye.

Likewise. We drive an 05 Armada (Titan with independent rear) purchased in 06 and it runs the same with almost 200K on the ticker. Literally never touched the motor except for oil. No plugs, no wires, not even a belt much less a major part. (I know, I need to change that stuff) Runs great, mamma gets 19-21 on the highway and I get 17. It will get 17 at a steady 100mph.

Admittedly, when I got it at around 15K I put it on the Tex. A&M fleet program. High grade synthetic (I did Royal Purple) in it then change the filter every 2-3000 and top off. Had the tranny serviced at called-for interval. Thats about it.

I wish it was a touch nicer inside, its all plastic, and the newer ones ARE nicer, but in retrospect its held up extraordinarily well. Still looks great 12 years later.

Engineering wise? I used to be in the car business and have driven about everything at one time or another and for ride, driving, performance, durability, etc this is one of the finest engineered vehicles Ive ever driven. 200K on it and the chassis is TIGHT. Steering even tighter. No pocket draining maintenance expenses. No oddball tire wear problems. Rides like a dream and drives like a go-kart (well, a 4000lb go-kart):green:

    I love this truck. (mamma's)

But it only has 130k on it.

I drive it like I stole it.

I tell people if I recommend Nissan, and I do a lot, to expect cheap interiors. Nissan and jatco are right there with Honda and Toyota engine and transmissions. Little random fact but that’s why Kia got better. Jatco. I look under my Titan and that tranny just strikes me as a modern c6. You would like my next project for her. I’m gonna put a Dana 60 in the back. I got it booked marked somewhere but a company has the axle shafts cut and the rear end all ready to go for these trucks. Not that I need it......but I do. Cause with a better rear end I’ll have to build up the tranny...then I’ll have to go to stillen and supercharge my truck. You see my logic.

I changed my plugs at 80k and they were not dirty at all. Nissan uses ngk. I recently had to replace my pass. Side front wheel bearing but in that trucks defense I hammered the piss out of it camping and exploring the mountains in Oregon. Surprisingly my ujoints are still good at 110 k plus.

Sales manager called me today, to follow-up on the lazy salesgal’s emails.

After an easy 10 minute conversation, I’ve got a new (to me) truck

Gets on a transporter early next week, I should have it by the end of the week.
