I should have known the comedian population would add their stuff even after I asked politely.... Oh well.

No thin skin here, but I am determined to kill this fuc**r. This snake killed an excellent and trained k9. Yeah, I'm in no mood for nonsense.

As to the 12ga, I'm not known as Buckshot Wade for nothing. I'm a surgeon with a scattergun. When I went after the snake my 12ga was in my trunk, not the house. Thus the 38 shotshells.

I've got some mothballs and a slingshot to shoot em up under the place. Clever huh? I've switched pistols and loaded up my old snake killer, the '56 M&P 4". This piece has killed two cottonmouths with the CCI shotshells. I'll get this bastard yet.

    BuckshotWade,

I wish you GOOD HUNTING as I'm definitely am NO fan of cottonmouths, having once been bitten by one, while gigging frogs, in my misspent youth.
(4 days of severe unpleasantness & IV anti-biotics. = Inasmuch as he's a carrion-eater, you WILL get a raging infection from the bite with/without a load of venom.)

    yours, satx

Do your steps have access to the sides, as in open? You could get a small minnow trap and put an egg in it. The snake will get inside the trap and wont be able to get out. I do this over at my mom's house to catch rat/chicken snakes. Only thing, might be an issue getting it out, so just leave the snake in trap and blast it with shotgun. I don't have a problem getting the rat snakes out, but they aint poisonous either.

Minnow trap like this - https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress™-funnel-minnow-trap#repChildCatid=3838730

Mothballs in strategic corners and back. Opening below steps clear. A known exfile for the snake. Remaining k9 in place outside door area. He will alert Danger Close upon seeing the snake and assume guard until I arrive. When the pistol comes out or shotgun is deployed the k9 will retreat. He's not fond of gunfire. Then as the snake becomes more visible I'll take it out. I'll exit house from back. Less vibration for snake to detect. Can pick my location for the shot as well. Not like stepping off the short steps into the snakes range.

On a related story, the slingshot is pretty cool. After deploying the mothballs, I grabbed a handful of cast 31cal round ball and went to my range. Did pretty good at 25m and my 10"x10" plate. Rang it 4 out of 10. Windage was hard to control. Not like a recurve bow...
New toy for under ten bucks. :)

Just came back inside. 10 min ago the dog alerted. Out the backdoor and was in front in nuthin. Dog backing away as the old Smith came out. The cat that hangs out front retreated under the car some 20ft away. Dog too. I searched and searched but no snake...

    Here
Sure hope the snake doesn't come inside your home. There could be several places where he might be able to get in, such as where plumbing or wiring go through the floor.

And he ain't joking. Mice can come through incredibly tiny openings. And anywhere a mice can go, a snake can follow.

Known of folks out camping who had snakes which got inside the tent and then crawled into the sleeping bag. What a way to wake up the next morning.
