I rode 3 wheelers back in the day. Never a street bike. I liked the retro/ older look. In 2007, while looking for a Kawasaki h2, I realized triumph was still making bikes. The creamsicle bonnie became my first street bike. Rode her all over the gulf coast when I lived in NOLA. Still have her in the garage with a few other stable mates now. Be warned. This could become an addiction. The bonnie is hiding behind the wall on the right.

A major good thing. Something you'll enjoy. Insurance is cheap and go's for a year. None of that every 6 months like with a car.

Insurance runs me $100 for 365 days. Minimum coverage. I think full was something like $350 for a year

On the 650 I ride. Dogging it and generally not caring about how much gas it's using. I can't get it to go below 31mpg.

Dogging my Harley nets me 35mpg

    Here
I bought a new '69 Bonneville in 1970 for $1,300. I sure wish that I still had it, it was a blast to ride. The only negative about it was the vibration was fatiguing on a long ride.

I had a friend back then that rode a Harley and every time that he saw me he would say "you can ride the Harley if you want to". It was not that he was doing me a favor like he tried to make it sound, he just wanted to ride my Bonneville.

Can someone explain to me how a 900 cc motor only has 55hp? It sounds rather small? Forgive my ignorance lol

I haven't googled the Triumph, but air cooled motors generally have less HP than water cooled.
My ZX9R was 900cc, and showed 131hp on the dyno.

It's a first lane bike. Around town, going to get a burger. Not so much the highway.

At 80mph, I'm guessing it weighs 500#. With another 200# with you on it. 55hp is a girls bike.

They're listing it as max too. So cruising around and not racking it out. 25-30hp.

    San Antonio!
A lot of horsepower isn't necessary for that type of bike, I had a 2005 Honda CBR1000RR that was in the low to mid 150 range in terms of horsepower at the rear wheel (stock) and all it did was try to kill me faster! I recently sold it as I simply didn't ride it enough anymore.

That Triumph is a good bike for a beginner. It has all the horsepower you'll need and won't get you into too much trouble. Plus it is a more comfortable riding position than a sportbike and while you won't be imitating your favorite MotoGP racer that's OK as in Texas traffic that only means you'll live longer!

Riding is great fun but after buying a Jeep in 2007 I became enamored with it. It provides a similar experience with the top down, allows you to put the top up when the weather turns to crap, and you can take your friends and family along for the fun! I still have a 1991 Honda ST1100 in the garage but it needs some work to get it back on the road. My neighbor just bought the same model bike and wants me to get mine going again, but it's tough to find a shop that will work on such an old bike and I don't know if it's worth the money to get it roadworthy. While I've had great experiences on it (to include seven years of riding it in Europe), and it's a great bike for an "older" rider (one step below a Gold Wing), I am just not sure if I have many days of riding left in me.

    Cheers! M2

$10,000 for a starter bike that you'll want to get rid of after 6 months. And everyday of the six months you'll wish you had got a bigger bike.

You'll say to yourself, it was only a couple thousand more. As cars honk at you to get out the way.

    YeAh buddy. A British 55hp.

People get caught up in the HP craze. My TMax Scooter had 49HP and I rode I30 at 80mph. For a noob, I would stick to the lower side of 100. Your wrist will be your ultimate guide and many have hurt themselves trying to prove somethin. I received a compliment after riding FM4 on my Burgman Scooter. My buddy was behind me on a VFR and he couldn't believe how the 540lb low center of gravity pig handled.
Again, cycling is what you make of it. You could go cross the US on a T100, there is just faster more comfortable ways to do it.
Head over to twtex.com, introduce yourself, and tell them what you plan on doing and you'll receive tons of helpful advice. Many of us get together for rides on weekend and meet during the week for dinner. We ride all kinds of bikes but they are bent to Adventure riding. When I joined over a decade ago, it was bent to sport touring and it is interesting to have seen the evolution of people. Lots of nice folks there.

Look at the t120. I hope that motorcycle forum sends members to TGT like y'all are doing here. I'd hate for it to be a one way street.

You can ride a moped across the country. 5hp brute. After that a 900cc will feel like a rocket. But it's not. My last bike was 45hp with a shaft drive. Subtract 30% power because it was a shaft drive.

The current bike is 75hp with a 3% power reduction because of the chain drive.

In car advertisements, they like to call higher HP as 'refinement'. Which is layman's term for more agile in traffic. Of course a max HP of 55 will move you along. If you've never been on a quicker bike. It'll seem strong at first.

Then there will be a time you need to haul some a$$. Merging onto the highway with semi-trucks everywhere. It makes a difference. Want to pass three cars that are doing 80-85mph? Getting away from that driver on the phone? Escaping dog packs and the occasional tail gater?

    Go with the "refinement"

55 HP is more than enough, look at the RPM range - this is for riding around town, and quite suited. I put a lot of miles on old Kawasaki KZ750B models which are also 55 HP - but at 7K RPM - and never had any issue.

The CB1100 is a close match to the Triumph.

The retros are cool. Classic style of bike with the latest technology.

    Is this a 1979 or 2017(?)

When the hell did they come out with that thing? I've ridden the old CB1100s a bit, and just recently threw out the ancient color-matching black/grey helmet my father bought back in the '80s.
Y'all are making me want to ride again!

Why would you hate that? A motorcycle forum doesn't compete with a gun forum. That said, many love to shoot and they created a gun classified because it was so popular. My guess is some like myself are members of both.

Most cycles will be able to beat most cars off the line. Merging onto the freeway was never an issue on the TMax or the Burgman. If you want to pass 3 cars doing 85MPH, perhaps a T100 is not what you should be looking at? I dunno what my F800R puts out but it is fast enough for my needs in the way I ride it. Any of the new bikes are pretty "refined", even the HD's. :peace:

I think 2013 was the year. When I had mine, I got lots of compliments when I rolled into TX HD. It was a great bike but I just didn't care for the ride and luggage options were few. My VFR Interceptor fits me way better. Both Kawi and Yammy have retro models too but Big Red did it best in my opinion.
