Im stunned. Why is this a race? Surely we don’t have that many daum Yankees in Texas.
Lol I consider my species Oregon redneck, cascade mountain verity. Real Oregon born republicans are like Bigfoot these days. Some people get lucky enough to see us.

On a serious note Texas has better rooted values than other states but it’s not immune to the trend of socialism and city democrats. And yeah this shouldn’t be a race. Here’s what you guys got that we didn’t in Oregon: a genuinely good dude in Cruz. I’m not gonna say he’s perfect but overall he’s a real good man who’s trying really hard to defend our rights. You can tell he loves our rights and it’s not just about the votes. Even when I was in Oregon I always thought highly of Cruz and now I can look forward to adding one more registered Texas republican to his supporters.

    sharkey,

Beto, "The PHONY Latino" & LEFTIST nitwit evidently just cannot stop digging deeper into the hole that he seems intent on disappearing into.
(I would have thought that he had enough "gray matter" to understand that TEXAS is NOT the Northeast, "Duh Pepul's Republick of Kalifornication" or any other "bright BLUE" area but I'd guess that his FAR LEFT donors f the DIMocRATS Party are "calling the tune" for him to dance to..)
Addenda: I was told in an email, from a friend in DC, that over 80% of donations to Beto are from OUTSIDE of Texas. = I do NOT know if that is correct or NOT.

I really wish that our "cable provider" had chosen to air the debate between Ted & Beto but the cable folks evidently didn't think that folks in SA would be more interested in the debate than they are in viewing a SILLY "situation comedy" rerun from seasons ago.

    Just my OPINIONS,
    yours, satx

    seeker_two,

SORRY, but you are 100% WRONG. - The TX Secretary of State said, "NO weapons at the polls for anyone, except sworn police officers",
(All of us Election Officers "work for" the SofS & what he says goes..)

NOTE: I'm a Presiding Election Judge in Bexar County & if a person CAUSES TROUBLE at the polls, they will QUICKLY find them self in custody. = The TX Highway Patrol is always close by on Election Day & on "speed dial".
(In the last decade, I've had to call the Troopers TWICE & in both cases "the disruptor" was in handcuffs & on the way to jail within 10 minutes.)

Nonetheless, PLEASE be KIND & POLITE to those of us who work the polls, as we "have a lot on our plate" & don't have time to deal with troublemakers.

    yours, satx

Curious as to what the disrupters were doing exactly, can you share?

    Southpaw,

One was telling people, who arrived at the polling place to "Leave if you know what's good for you" (Intimidating voters is a violation of the law.) and the OTHER got mad at one of my clerks (for asking to see his ID, as is required by TX law) & started cursing LOUDLY & threatening her with violence. - Both got "locked up".
(Other disruptors, who were NOT bad enough to call the police did things like talking on their cellphones, which cannot be used in the polling place, SHOUTING/cursing people inside the polling place, insisting on wearing "campaign buttons" or teeshirts inside the polling place, electionering inside the 100 foot area, etc. = Generally, being told that the PD would be called if they didn't stop __________, "calmed them down".)

This has been addressed in one of the other threads. Here’s the short version:

The D party is fracturing; Veto is the face of the hell bent on socialism side. National $ pour in to create more of a race than it really is in hope that R $ and resources are diverted to Cruz, resulting in fewer resources being allocated to seats that are more susceptible to flip Blue.

The D strategy doesn’t need Veto to get the seat to achieve national goals. The Rs can’t afford to have Cruz voted off the island.

The only reason this is possible is due to the 5 million domestic immigrants that moved into Texas mainly from CA, IL, NY, and FL over the last 15 years.

I was hoping Veto would be Cruzified.

I wasn't able to watch... will look for the lowlights.

If there's a message that should get out, it's that a privledged white boy thinks he can fool millions of Hispanics to vote for him by changing his name and promising free shit he won't be allowed to deliver.
Veto's target voter is 18-29 yr old college graduate.

You may want to blame the 5 million domestic immigrants but this California born and raised man has nothing to do with all the liberal BS that comes from there.

I grew up in the 70-80's hunting, shooting and fishing enjoying the good life. I made it though the school system just before the schools screwed the world with its Liberal teaching and participation trophies.

You may want to consider the HUGE amount of home grown college indoctrinated liberals the state produces itself as another source of the scourge

The audience was ask to remain silent and at several points in the debate the audience laughed cheered groaned blah blah blah and were asked to remain quiet. The outbursts were for and against both sides equally for the most part. It was not like it was full of beto or cruz fans.

I’m not blaming anything. I’m simply suggesting why a phenomenon has occurred.

Since you introduced “ the HUGE amount of home grown college indoctrinated liberals”, let’s look at those numbers for the same era

Texas graduated about 240K students per year in 2005, and that number grows, reliably, at about 1% per year.

    http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/reports/PDF/2454.PDF?CFID=85785997&CFTOKEN=48080723

A little math applied indicates that during the period from 2003 - present about 2.4 million students graduated from Texas high schools.

A little over half, or about 1.5 million of those graduates went on to college.

    http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/reports/PDF/2455.PDF?CFID=85791187&CFTOKEN=64643655

In short, let’s assume all those 1.5m students are full up homegrown liberal, they’re still outnumbered a little more than 3:1 by imports.

While this is non-scientific, it is indicative that the shift in perception that Texas could have a major state or national seat turn Blue is most likely due to the additive effect of both those factors, with imports probably having an outsized effect.

You’re guess is as good as mine, but I’ll stand by my theory that, overall, domestic migration to Texas (being 63% of Texas’ overall population growth since 2003) is having a negative effect on Texas and Texans.

Are there enough of them to swing the vote?

By themselves, I don’t think so as that group tends to underperform in election turnout. Until something motivates them. In 1992 it was Clintons ‘It’s the economy, stupid” and MTVs Rock the Vote that mobilized them.

Realize too, that roughly 1/3d of the Texas voting population is at play in any given election. Traditionally, most of those voters go Red at the state and national level and Blue at the local levels. But, there’s a small enough margin that it only takes a few small changes to make a big difference.

I think that’s what the Ds envision for Texas. Lots of little things: hatred of Trump; changes in demographic trends, increased turnout of traditional D voters in off-year elections, etc.

The DIMs are engaging in WISHFUL THINKING. = The chance that Texas will be BLUE or even PURPLE in my remaining life is somewhere between ZERO & MINUS FIVE.
