I would also add, without being too cynical, if the GOP is trying to avoid a verbal political firestorm from the Lefties by continuing with these little incremental delays, they won’t be successful. There’s nothing they [GOP] can do OR not do, that will subdue those verbal attacks, they’re going to happen, regardless!

If they don’t allow extensions, they’ll be attacked. If they do allow extensions, they’ll be attacked. (Longer time extensions should have been granted, more documents were needed, more people needed to testify, on and on...).

    You nailed it.

They need to go on and get this done. Dragging it out will only make things worse.

Could be wrong BUT my personal belief is, this “lady” will not ever testify under oath. The perjury risk is just too great. Her testimony isn’t likely to block Kavanaugh’s confirmation so there’s only downside risk for her - nothing for her to gain. The Democrats know this - she’s just a pawn to be used in their game.

    And yet another delay:

Ford Atty @130 deadline - "Can we set up a time for later this afternoon to continue our negotiations?”"

Here is the text. What a bunch of double-talk:

"Dr. Ford accepts the Committee's request to provide her first-hand knowledge of Brett Kavanaugh's sexual misconduct next week. Although many aspects of the proposal you provided via email, on September 21, 2018, at 2:33 pm, are fundamentally inconsistent with the Committee’s promise of a fair, impartial investigation into her allegations, and we are disappointed with the leaks and the bullying that have tainted the process, we are hopeful that we can reach agreement on details. Can we set up a time for later this afternoon to continue our negotiations?"

I guess this is the latest. Ford agreed give testimony, but still wants to negotiate. Just drawing it out to paint the Rs in poor light if they don’t do what she wants.

I agree; at this point, they’re just making themselves look foolish.

Her testimony isn’t likely to block Kavanaugh’s confirmation so there’s only downside risk for her - nothing for her to gain. The Democrats know this - she’s just a pawn to be used in their game.

Then subpoena her and she can decide whether to testify under oath or sit in jail while they vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

If somehow she's telling the truth then she'll have her day. More likely if she perjures herself in front of the Senate she needs to be made an example of.

At this point give to demands.

Republicans ask no questions, just tell she is brave, blah, blah, blah.

Then bring in the witnesses, Judge, Smyth, BK to refute the event even happened.

    Then vote him into SCOTUS.

Yeah, I read something like that article a bit earlier. Seems the Senate Judiciary committee is much like the House Judiciary committee in that deadlines only mean a time to the next deadline. Reminds me of the demands to Lisa Page.

Last I saw was all the negotiating crap is about Ford’s handlers wanting BK to testify first and Ford be questioned only by the committee. This is ridiculous because anyone who is being accused should at least have the accusation on record before being forced to defend it. My guess is Ford needs more info in order to create the rest of the story.

Senate Rs want Ford to testify first and to be questioned by a third party. Most likely they would select a woman to avoid the political fallout of asking reasonable questions of a woman with a shaky as hell sexual assault allegation. Then BK would come in the following day along with other witnesses to offer a defense to the claims. This seems completely reasonable to me aside from the fact that the claim appears to be baseless and none of this should happening at all.

    Younggun,

I talked to a staffer at Senator Tim Scott's office in DC Friday PM. - I have "adopted family" in Spartanburg County & know many people from SC.

He said that the plan is to have Ms. Ford questioned by a Deputy US Attorney from Columbia, SC & who is an A-A female on Monday or Tuesday morning.
He said that the woman is known in SC to be a FAIR & TOUGH prosecutor & can get to the bottom of a subject of interest QUICKLY.

I truly hope that the staffer is CORRECT.

    yours, satx
