I killed a coyote with a 2002 Ford Escort on the way to a dove lease in west Texas. He dashed out in front of me in the dark when I was going 70 mph.

What saved me was that he thought he could duck under the headlight, so, I only hit him with the wheel and undercarriage. He did kill a perfectly good AC because the compressor was on that side and it knocked the connections loose, but the car looked undamaged.

A whitetail would have went through the windshield and killed me.

I had only one bad experience at Cabela's. I was browsing the gun counter when an older employee asked if I was looking for something in particular. I told him I was shopping for a 1911, knowing from previous scouting expeditions that they had various models and brands there.

He looked at me blankly and said, "A what?"

"A 1911. You know, the old GI .45 - in fact, I want it as close to the original Colt design as possible."

He scowled (!) and replied, "We don't carry Colt."

I replied "It's not just Colt that makes them. I just want something close to the old government model. I've been looking at-"

"Well, you won't find it here!" And he walked off.

A week later, I bought my Rock Island 1911A1 at that very gun counter from one of that idiot's coworkers who was helpful, at least somewhat knowledgeable, and helped me find a 1911 without a bobbed hammer, extended beavertail, ambidextrous safety, or front serrations that I could afford. I also pointed the idiot out at the other end of the gun counter and related the story. My sales guy nodded and said "Yeah, sounds like him..."

Pretty sure shooting from a vehicle is frowned upon...unless the deer was in the vehicle with you. If so, that's a story worth telling...
Only illegal from public roads, private property is fine.
    Exception being migratory bird hunting.

The only thing I've ever hunted from a vehicle was pheasants in Nebraska, and....ooops....neva mind, those guys was askin for it....I know nuthin.

I have shot most of my deer from a blind, and one from a tripod stand. Hmmm....IIRC, it used to be illegal to hunt deer from a vehicle, haven't checked lately to be sure it's legal now, because I don't bother unless I'm going hunting.

Legal where I did it, my father was a guide during deer season.

See, ya learn something everyday. If I could only go back then.....too late now, for the moment. The family ranch has supposedly sold, ( although how much $ not confirmed. ) Cash is supposed to be here at the end of the month . Anyway , I can't hunt there now, but I'll take my lil piece of $1.7 mil over a place to shoot little whitetails 240 miles away.

I have been looking for a light weight .22 revolver. Found one for sale and was to meet the guy today at 1:45pm. Had some time to kill so I stopped in at the nearest Academy to see if they had one I could hold and examine. Another customer was engaged with the gentleman behind the counter wanting to buy a pistol. The customer asked about a Glock. The employee proceeded to tell him how unsafe those were as they had no safety. Talked him into some other pistol instead. After he finished up with that customer I asked to see a S&W Airweight .38 (they had no .22's). He told me to just go down to the other end of the counter and look. I asked for the store manager to come wait on me as he didn't seem interested at all. When the manager came I explained why I was leaving and left.
