My wife would like a knife in her vehicle. I want her to have an auto knife but I'm not familiar with many. I have a Gerber auto knife but it is too large for her.

Recommendations for a good, American made auto knife are appreciated. My wife is very petite so it does need to be an appropriate size for her.

I’ll second Benchmade for Auto knives. I’d seriously look at a fixed blade knife for her unless she’s real comfortable with knives.

She's not familiar with pocket knives though I wouldn't say not comfortable. A fixed blade would be a little long. Something that can be concealed and opened quickly without fumbling around is what we're looking for.

The Benchmade Auto Mini Stryker looks good.

Before you press a buy button somewhere. Take a look at Out The Front(OTF) auto knives. Then all she'll have to do is slide a button to open and slide it again to close. It sounds wild but they're made. Benchmade has some top shelf stuff.

I own 4 benchmade. My everyday carry is a full size Infidel, dagger blade, OTF auto.

The Out The Side(OTS) auto is cool but you have to close the blade manually.

not American made but my lightning D/A's I have had for 4-5 years still function perfect lock tight and I am not afraid to abuse or lose them at 30 bucks a pop.

A friend had the infidel a few years ago and I wasn't impressed. Reading some reviews it hasn't gotten better. Microtech apparently makes a OTF that is better.

Knives are like whiskey. Different taste like knives. I've read reviews about the great debate. Microtech verses Benchmade. The OTF auto specifically. Ford verse Chevy type stuff.

Along as its American made. I support what you buy.

These scratches are from popping beer bottles. I engraved it and don't want to doxx myself. Scratches apparent.

I've got a Benchmade auto and my wife hounded me about until I bought her one just like it. Mine was originally a gift from a friend on the police department. We both like 'em pretty good and both carry them everyday. She said she would get some pretty odd looks and pretty often in the office when she first got hers but she thought it was funny. No big deal any more except any time someone needs a knife they come to her. She won't loan it but she'll come over and cut what they need cut.

I'll say this, what ever that steel is in the Benchmade, it don't come close to holding an edge like a Buck 110. You can get those Buck knives as an auto as well now. I want one of those.

Buck 110. It's 440A with a special heat treat. It'll take a scary edge but it'll shatter like glass. Iconic knife and they offer it in other steels. Don't go standard unless you're careful with the knife.

Push knife with a sheath on a necklace.

Cold Steel is the brand. It's Chinese made but the earlier were Japanese. Robot communist made steel in a foreign land. It's still pokey. By design, an excellent choice.

The leverage flip open type knives open faster then an auto and you can flip it closed. Benchmade 522.

My personal opinion. If it's automatic, you're wasting your money if it's not an OTF.
