They could be handing out free blowjobs and ice cream and I still wouldn't set foot in a DART train, even if the ride was free and convenient.

I’d sure like to know where the shooter guy works. I could swear I’ve seen that guy around somewhere before... just can’t quite place it. (Anyway, good luck to him - assuming this latest report is true).

I elected to ride DART down to the NRA Convention a few months back. Other than the train cars smelling like urine, and the normal “people of WalMart” clientele, panhandler asking for a quarter, I wasn’t bothered too much. I found the conversation between the two hookers on the seat in front of me to be kinda interesting.

On the way back, there was a DART lady officer at the front of our car. After the train was underway, she announced a ticket check. One young black guy a few seats in front of me, jumped up and started making his way to the rear of the car. She called him out on it (as in: caught!). But I don’t think anything was done to him, even though the DART laws say there’s something like a $400 fine for not having paid the fare.

Even a fairly small man, especially drugged up, can inflict some serious bodily damage.
Can anyone point out the part of Texas law that says you have to take a beating if the person is smaller or younger than you? I must have missed that part.

I ride the rail a lot. I would avoid West End Sta. and the Blue and Red lines as they head south of downtown. The Green line and Orange line during rush hour is usually ok. They just upgraded their cameras in the rail cars and they are 30 officers down from having an officer on every car according to DART. I definitely wouldn't bury my head in a phone or a book but I haven't had any issues. Rude people and pan handlers are either on the cars or at the stations.

Gee it seems like the case progressed as it should. Who would have thunk it, what with all the PD cover ups and JBT.

Anything more known about “the victim”? Was he on drugs, had ‘anger management’ issues or just some guy who went berserk?

I'll be interested to hear more about the story. I'm guessing the shooter didn't call 911 to report the shooting.

This will sound dumb, but is there a law that you have to report a shooting in self-defense? It seems if someone attacks you and you knock the hell out of them there is no report? Common sense is you should, but i was wondering if there is really a law.

I don't know if it's the law, but if you don't report it, the injured party more than likely will. They will probably have a much different story to tell than the shooter. And of course if they seek treatment for a gunshot, it will be reported to law enforcement. Then you have some 'splainin to do.

No, no law about it, but do you want the cops showing up looking for a guy with a gun that just shot someone, or would you rather they show up looking for the guy who called 911 saying he had to shoot someone?

That scenario is directly related to how you get treated when they arrive. Probably won't go great either way, but likely won't be as trigger happy if they know the situation is diffused and the shooter is waiting politely for them.
