Just spent 3 days in Austin's Zilker park with 74,999 of my closest friends.

They have expanded the acreage so as to facilitate the flow of humans quite well.
It is the most peaceful, courteous and respectful 75,000 people immaginable.
I'll argue with anyone who says todays "kids" are anything less that great Americans.

Today was God-awful hot and humid but some huge storms tended, not always, to skirt around the edges of Austin.

There was a shift away from Electronic Dance Music and rap which was just fine with me.
There was nearly a complete lack of the Austin Country sound that ACL reveled in years ago, which I miss a bit.

Mostly it was rock-centric and mostly aimed at the demographic of my kids rather than me.

A lifetime memory was 76 y/o Paul McCartney who, Friday, played an amazing 2.5 hours nonstop and has a historical repoirtior equalled by no other human living or passed. Amazing.

    ACL is not for everybody.
    It's likely not for most.

    I think I've been 14 of the 17 years.

TX trivia.....without Google......what one band has played every single one of the 17 years?

Did old glory or the lone star fly?
    Did they get due respect?

    ACL visible politics?

The fest was nearly 100% politics free.
Like most of the zeitgeist of our nation .......I think there is a "Let's-just-move-on" sentiment. I hope so.

There were very few flags of any sort, save the plethora of college banners.
Zero Cruz or Beto signage. None.
I saw a couple of "Willie Nelson for President" t-shirts. I have a signed one from about 1980 in a box somewhere. Signed by "Him"!

About the only on-stage political reference I recall was Brandi Carlile (who is a great singer from Seattle) fussed a bit about the SCOTUS pick but it was in reference to the legal status of the 2 daughters her wife birthed and it was a subtle and poingnent comment.

Generally there was a profuse amount of "Horns Up" Longhorn pride and an appropriately visible pride in our state's capitol city.
    .............................

    Too answer your question....
The US Stars and Stripes flew over Paul McCartney's stage with a brilliant spotlight on it for most of his 2.5 hours.
He, at one time, lay in his crib as German rockets landed on his homeland.
His generation grew up knowing what our countries accomplished.
    Sir Paul has my respect.

    ................................

    My absolute favorite though:
There were a couple of sites to sign up to vote.
    It was very hot.
They were handing out hand fans that had, in bold lettering, the words "2018, Just F**king Vote".
An absolute apolitical statement. There was nothing partisan in the vicinity.
If you don't vote you shouldn't bitch IMHO.

Paul McCartney flew the Chilean flag.

    You know what?
    You are right.
I suspect that he did not get the memo that the TX flag and the Chilean flag are quite similar but not identical.

In realtime I missed that, perhaps a secondary effect of a goodly number of $10 Karbach Hopadillo IPAs!?!?

I'm thinking Sir Paul is an honorable guy and will remedy that embarrassment this coming Friday.
I'll be there again so I can give an update.

    BTW:
England has one flag and the UK has another.
They are easily confused by us Yanks!
Hint...the Union Jack is not England's flag.
Do I know which is which? Do you?

There was, through his set, A US Stars and Stripes up on top of that ginormous AMEX stage with a spotlight displaying it.

    He's a 76 y/o legend so I'll give him some slack.

That sigh seems to be getting worse. Perhaps consult a pulmonologist.

    Anyway.....

Sir Paul McCartney at ACL tonight.

At the end of the show he took to the stage waving a Texas flag.
    No Chilean flags this evening.

Also on stage....a USA Stars and Stripes, a UK Union Jack and a rainbow LGBTQ-pride flag.
Again the fest was near-devoid of partisan politics, statements or symbols on stage. Refreshing!
There were, however, about 8,320 concertgoer fans with Beto t-shirts.

    Seems contrary.

Glad you had a good time and it didn't become a Leftist slam fest.

    Somantics.

LBGTQ rights is a human-rights social issue.
    It's been politicized, of course.

I will not even get dragged into a debate about "Is being born gay the same as being born black or being born a woman?".
Ye gads, even "Being born a woman." has become politicized.

Ain't going there. Too much like arguing faith. Verboten in my sphere.

    ................................

    Yes.
    Went 5 of 6 days.
Lent my wrist bands to my son and GF Saturday.

    Music overload!
