I remember my first meet @ Hicksville, just kinda showed up not knowing anyone but it didn't take long. Then again, I showed up with Clarke which helped break the ice. It helps that I'm not exactly a shy person, but I can understand being apprehensive just walking up to random people.

One thing we could also do that would likely help is post a few pics to a thread as people show up, that would help with recognition. This group is many things, but unfriendly we are not. FWIW I always make it a point to wear my Texas Gun Talk t-shirt to the events, some others do as well (or hats, or whatever).

Barring all that, don't feel shy to post on the site saying "where the heck are you idiots hiding?" Someone will laugh and you'll win the game of hide n' seek. ;)

See you at the next one, right?

When you do the Run for the Wall the first time you are issued a wristband that has FNG on it and you are required to wear it. Might be an idea that wouldn't cost much. A name badge and a wristband would be an invitation for everyone to talk with the wearer. At least a name badge as I'm terrible on names. And I didn't get to make it. Maybe spring...

BTW "FNG" stands for Fine New Guy. That's the line we were fed but I know better....

Did they tell you they had designated areas and put a KM sticker on your back?

Fat chance that the nametag thing will catch on. I was the ONLY person to wear a name tag at one of the last Gatesville meetings. (I even had my AVATAR printed on it)

Kinda like High School, everyone has a group (click) that they belong to and feel uncomfortable with strangers.

Longtime regular members know each other and feel kinship, the rest of us just talk to a few people and move on.

I disagree on the clique thing. I think we all have buddys there but try to make the rounds and visit with everybody. We are also very inviting as a whole.

Yrah, I try to at least greet everyone. Sometimes I even wind up greeting people that are not even part of our group. I quite often bring a guest or two like this time. So sometimes I am a little occupied with them as well.

Don't be afraid to ask if someone is from TGT. Even if they aren't, I have met some nice folks that way.

Well, I wasn't there this time, or you might have.

Good thing you weren't there, or we'd have spent the whole day "meeting " each other. I wish I was kidding, too. I'm bad with names and my memory is going to hell fast.

On the way down, I told Darkpriest I forgot my grandson's name. A little earlier today I couldn't recall it. After trying for awhile, I gave up and called my mom. On the second ring, it popped into my head.

It's like gold in a mine, it's there, but sometimes it takes a hell of a lot of digging to get it.

There's only a few people that I might recognise by sight by April, and only a few that I know their real names right now.

Nobody calls me by my real name anyway. My name does not start with an A!

I don't have a single complaint about the meet, I wish we could do them way more often. The only downside I had was being unable to eat well there, but that's not anyone's fault but mine. The food was good, I just was unable to eat it well. And didn't see all the stuff I could have.

By the time I found out about the name tags, I figured everyone had already met anyway.

Dawico did offer me a Shoot n See sticker to use instead, though.

The FNG's got several privileges, main one I remember was on Sat, as a group, we got to ride our bikes into Arlington National Cemetery and park at the Tomb of the Unknown for a placing of a wreath from the group. (Driving into the Cemetery is only allowed for handicapped visitors and those attending a burial or visiting a private gravesite.) Fri nite we were escorted to DC and parked beside the Lincoln Memorial on the grass and visited the Vietnam Wall. See my Avatar.

An interesting sidebar after the laying of the wreath when we got ready to leave I noticed the bike in front of me had a Texas military service license plate with the Air Force Cross Emblem. One notch down from the MOH.

Usually, I'm doing more sitting around and chatting than I am shooting. This time, I was determined to get a little shooting in with my son. Next time, I will probably be back to my usual mostly sitting around self.

As far as cliques - I'd kind of seen that with our 80 - 120 person groups, which is natural of any large group. But with these smaller 30 person groups, that's really not much of a thing anymore.

For future meets, I'll get back to posting the map of the range to help new people find where we hang out ahead of time. It's easy enough to do, so if it helps even one person - totally worth it.

    Felt kind of left out.
One way around that is to post in one of the preparation threads that you've never shot a particular kind of firearm and you wonder if anyone will bring one. That generally starts a repeated pattern of people asking "Have you ever shot one of these?" and shoving different guns and ammo into your hands.

Conversation and camaraderie inevitably follow; they're unavoidable. Once you've handled my guns you're my friend.

If I'm there in April (and I damn well intend to be) just ask for "something weird". I can usually help with that.

Thanks Ben, I knew someone would figure out a nice way to say what I was trying to.
