Looking at butt stocks for an AR15 varmint rifle chambered in .223. Has an 18” fluted barrel and wears an SWFA SS 10X. Upper is riding a standard M&P 15 lower for now and I need to swap out the collapsible stock for something better.

The rifle will usually be shot off a bipod with rear bag but I’m still trying to Lee the weight reasonable. I’d also like my 10y/o daughter to be able to shoot it. (She can shoot, issue would be LOP).

I’ve been leaning towards the Luth AR MBA-3. My only concerns are reports that it’s “flimsy”. I’ve also read the the check riser can get in the way of the charging handle. Seems to be a bigger issue with AR10s though.

My other solution would be a PRS gen 3. I’ve had a Gen 2 and had no issues with it’s quality, but It will definitely put the LOP beyond what my daughter can deal with.

    Opinions?

Also briefly looked at an XLR Tac Lite. Doesn’t look like it would ride a bag very well.

I would swap the stock out for a magpul one. The CRT is a nice one. It's adjustable so your daughter can shoot and it's much nicer then the one you have

Yep. Trying to find a stock that fills 2 roles that don’t normally mix.

The MBA 3 is closest but wanted to get as many opinions as I could on it.

I was debating between the PRS or the MBA-1 (the rifle stock) and finally was able to handle the MBA-1 at the NRA convention as none of the LGS had any Luth stocks to handle. My concern was it being flimsy.

Can't tell you about the -3, but the -1 is rock solid. It's easy to adjust and once adjusted, the stock doesn't move. I am extremely pleased with it. Don't know if this helps you any, but Luth is a solid product line.

I like mine. I have the rifle stock and not the collapsible version. It is not wobbly and doesn't rattle. I can't remember how close the charging handle gets to the cheek riser. It's been in the safe a while.

Here's a little something about Luth:

What’s in a name? The Luth name is synonymous with Experience, Expertise, Knowledge, Innovation, and has been a driving force in the firearm industry for close to 40 years. Starting as a machinist 40 years ago Randy Luth founded D.P.M.S. / Panther Arms and grew the company to become one of the leading manufacturers of AR-15 firearms and firearm components in the world.

Randy led D.P.M.S. from it’s founding in 1986 until the company was sold in 2007. Holding 7 patents and numerous industry leading innovations, the Luth name has earned the respect of the entire firearm industry and is regarded as one of the driving forces behind the growth and popularity of the AR-15 market.

Although known for high-quality, affordable complete AR-15 firearms, accessories and components for the retail market, less known is the fact that under Randy’s leadership D.P.M.S. manufactured and supplied components for the entire AR-15/M-16 industry. Many competing brands contained Luth components.

Randy’s constant drive to innovate has lead the industry being the first to develop, design and manufacture dozens of firearms, components and manufacturing processes that are commonplace throughout the industry today.
