So I took my family to the Texas State Fair a couple weekends ago. Before we got out of the car I made sure to take my pistol off me and lock it up, as I expected there to be metal detectors and signs prohibiting guns.

We get to the entrance and see the normal metal detectors and bag checkers/security. Go through the area and I see a huge 30.07 sign. No 30.06 anywhere. I made sure to check everywhere for it.

So, with that being said, I assume I could've walked on with my pistol on me the entire time, right? Not sure how the "security" would've handled it. Does anyone have experience with concealed carry at the fair? Is it just a screw up on their part? I would assume such a big venue wouldn't make a mistake like forgetting to put up their huge 30.06 sign.

    Easy peasy.

When you approach the metal detector, show the staff your LTC.

They’ll have you bypass the detector completely, no need to empty pockets or anything, and have you show your LTC to the officer.

Officer will look at it, may ask for your driver license, then he’ll waive you in.

    To All,

The 2nd Friday evening of the Fair, Darla & I went to Gate #6 about 1700. I identified myself to the guy at the metal detector & he asked me if I had a KNIFE on my person.
I said, "yes, a pocket knife."
(My little folding Gerber has a 2.25" blade.)

He said, "I'll be taking that. You cannot bring a knife onto the State Fair premises."

About that time a young DPD officer walked over & asked what was going on. - I said, "This security guy says that he's taking my pocket knife."

The PO asked if I was carrying a concealed weapon.
    I said, "YES."

He then asked to see my CC permit & I complied.

The policeman's only comment was, "I'm sorry you were inconvenienced. Some people have NO brains. Enjoy the Fair."
(We shook hands & Darla & I went on into the grounds. = NICE LEO, imo.)

Somehow, having a handgun permit, it seems to me, covers carrying an ordinary pocketknife, if not any other sort of tool/weapon.
(MOST men of my generation carry some sort of blade. - I use mine numerous times every week.)

    just my OPINION, satx

I was there 2 years ago and they only had 30.07 though I'd checked ahead of time. Security at the gate but no metal detector and no questions.

Their website says no stabby things.

Go every year. With the fam.

Sometimes they wave me through and tell me to talk to the officer.

This year they escorted me to the officer. No one ask about the knives. BUT they were not clipped.

I saw several folks with knives out there this time.

    stdred27,

In other words, the people who made the policies were MORONS who want to prohibit pocket knives to licensed concealed carriers. = SORRY, but that policy is STUPID.
(Otoh, the DPD officer had both a BRAIN & COMMONSENSE.)

    yours, satx

Pretty darn smart iffen you ask me. Don't want fools bringing knives to a gunfight.

BTW: Anyone know where to download plans for a plastic knife?
