You may remember this thread earlier this year:
    https://www.texasguntalk.com/threads/anonymous-neighbor-needs-safe-space.85008/

I have since built a range on my place with a nice berm. It is visible from the road and faces the road, a lightly traveled dead-end road.

Last night there was a pack of coyotes on my place. They're around here all the time but this was the first time I've seen them on my place. I am worried about my calves so I decided to sight-in my Vortex Spitfire on my Colt 6940 and be ready for this evening. Then I figured I might as well sight-in my Sig Romeo on my FNX 45-T. I've only used my range once since I built it in July and that was with a suppressed .22.

So, today I fired off about 20 shots through the AR then started to move closer for the pistol. I looked up and noticed two Bexar County deputy vehicles at my fence. I greeted them and asked if my neighbors had called. I know another neighbor got a visit from them after shooting not too long ago. They confirmed a neighbor did call. I have a pretty good idea who called but I have no idea if that is the same person that sent the anonymous letter earlier this year.

The deputies asked how many acres I had. I have over 10 so they said I was legal. I let them look at the range and they were satisfied that it was safe, much safer than the average places they get called to for shooting in the country. They said lots of people have no backstop at all.

They told me to have a nice day, carry on, and that I didn't need to do anything. They said they would tell me neighbor I was safe and legal. I offered to talk to my neighbor and/or call him prior to any shooting. I haven't heard from the neighbor.

I bought this place in part because I could shoot out here. I had my attorney specifically double check that I was legal. I don't mean to be a jerk but if you don't like shooting don't live in the country. The people around me on my side of the road have 35-75 acres and all shoot frequently. I like it that way.

Here's the letter I got earlier this year, the range being built, and my range today after all the heavy rains. I have some extra sand I'm going to have to add to the right side of the backstop, just to the right of the metal target. That area washed out with the rain and left some rocks exposed.

Well, I live a stone's throw away from Lockheed , Carswell , and the Guard.

The house I live in was temporary housing for the workers that built Consolidated Vultee, ( now Lockheed). Much like the liberal Yankees that move to Texas, but want to change it to suit their views.

Got a pothead neighbor behind me, that was bitching one day about the jets. Hmmmm.....I love it, sounds like freedom to me, and they were here first.

Same thing with people that buy cheap houses that abut railroad tracks. Ummmm.....why did you think it was cheaper? Did you not see the tracks? NOW YOU'RE BITCHING ABOUT TRAINS?

WTF ever. I have PTSD from being shot at, and people I worked with being murdered. I don't cry about people shooting in the county, as long as they keep their bullets in their own property. If they start coming this way, it will be an all out war, and I will win. People would laugh because, they had a small gun store (since closed), that I didn't know had a small range behind it. I heard gun fire, drew, and sought cover. Instinct, from taking rounds. Some older guys chuckled, and told me there was a gun range behind the tiny shop. It is just shit you live with. I keep my head of a swivel, watch people, hands, body language. I am always armed. My wife says that must be exhausting. I told her, most people are oblivious of problems before they become one. I tried to talk it through with my wife, she didn't want to hear it. Now, she had a patient commit suicide, and that gave her some survivor guilt.

But, I didn't point and say, "You insensitive bitch, now you know what it feels like!" I took the anger she was misdirecting, and explained to her, that her anger was misplaced and she was having survivor guilt. I am pretty good at getting in a person's skull when need be. I told her, I lost people, I knew and worked with to murder. Survivor guilt is a normal reaction. What happens sometimes is out of your control. You couldn't be there to stop the guy. I couldn't be there with an M-4 to spray down the cartel bastards who shot up the SOG team I worked with for 45 days, when they got lit up with illegally modified AK's. Yeah, the BG's don't give a crap about gun laws. I wasn't there to pop the grape of the Trucker that ran down a partner on my shift. I wasn't there when my classmate rolled his vehicle chasing BG's. You just have to understand, there are things you can't fix. I guess she is doing counseling over that. I just live with PTSD as a dark passenger. I have a macabre mentality. Treat everyone you meet with civility, but be prepared to kill them if necessary.

Also, I know the question about how many acres you need to shoot a gun gets asked here all the time. Here's the answer regarding county laws:

    https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/LG/htm/LG.235.htm

If you are in an unincorporated area of the county AND NOT in a subdivision, you can shoot on any size property. If you are in an unincorporated area of the county AND in a subdivision, your county MAY prohibit you from shooting on 10 acres or less. It varies by county. I have read that Bexar County did make the prohibition on Nov 21, 1990 but I cannot find a record of it on-line.

Municipalities have different laws governing them:

I have a large collection of WW2 weapons and, as everyone knows, they need to be fired and cleaned regularly. Virtually everyone in my little corner of Texas cleans their weapons regularly. Nice noise. There are 2 people that tried bringing the Sheriff out for another neighbor. It didn't work. The game warden was visiting one day and told me that the only restriction is that the bullet doesn't go over your fence to another's property. I have good backstop and try to watch all my bullets so they don't trespass.

"Be neighborly, consider minding your own damn business".
Libs only pretend to "care" about veterans when they try to use them for their agendas.

I wish I could have a range, i am in the city. I almost called the police on my neighbor Sat.
My cell was off or I would have. He had a guest at 3am yelling all kinds of crazy crap including he was an OG and threatening whoever he was speaking on the phone.
I went over the next night since I walk the dog every night and explained the problem I had. He was cordial and told me what happened. I hope it doesn't happen again. I like to be neighborly. No issues in 10 years and then this youngwhite guy rents the house out. He does have good taste in women though.
