    Homeless felon shoplifter?

    Good riddance.

Whether legal or not, it was a good shoot.

C'mon man. Stop. Think about it. Nothing right about taking a human life over a lousy damn hatchet. You steal my hatchet, I don't have one, and I have to go buy another one. I'm out 2x retail + the gas and time. I still wouldn't shoot. This guy is only out wholesale price.

It's why we have police, security cameras, and the court system.

Really, think about it. What if that were your brother? Guess what? He was.

Y'all go out and check your hatchets. The world may well be better off without that guy, but....maybe we should build gas chamber showers, and start rounding them up by the train loads.

Not that I haven't been ripped off, and seriously hurt by it. As a matter of fact, I'm 99% sure who did it. Planned to go dove hunting with my "buddy". Tragically shoot him accidentally in the side of the head. The ONLY thing that stopped me: 1%.

Nobody likes a thief. But remember the bass player for Red Hot Chili Peppers was a homeless herion addict before contributing to mankind as a member of that band.

He's got more money than most of us put together now. To judge a human being in one moment of his life over the internet and not consider the potential loss is just wrong.

Most here want to thump their chests for being anti abortion, but it's OK to kill them if they don't turn out alright?

Seriously, guys....think about it, a human life, however you may judge it, is irreplaceable and cannot have value placed on it. It's not our place to judge, but try to get along.

    That place east of Waco....
Seems pretty clear that the hatchet was stuffed in his pants.

That said, I have no pity for the shoplifter.

So....if the thief had a pistol in his pants, would the shooting be justified?

If the shopkeeper's attorney is smart, he/she will make these arguments:

    1. The perp with the hatchet should be considered armed during the commission of a crime.....a felony act.

    2. When the shopkeeper intervened, the perp resisted physically, thereby committing assault during the commission of a crime....also a felony.

    3. During the assault, the perp had access to a deadly weapon that could be used by the perp against the shopkeeper, as any reasonable person could conclude based on the video.

    4. The size, age, and physical health of the perp compared to the shopkeeper displayed a disparity of force, justifying the shopkeeper's use of a firearm.

It'll cost the shopkeeper to get an attorney that good, but he could beat the charges.

Are you comparing the idea of someone taking responsibility for creating a life to someone being a dirt bag and losing theirs?

It even gonna touch the crappy band contribution.

This time a hatchet. What will he take or have next time? Or the guy's buddy that found out he won't protect his property? Because he was afraid to use the gun, what stops the thief from coming/turning around and taking it? And maybe the owners life?
Property ain't worth a life? If it ain't worth his life, the thief should have stayed home.

Most expensive hatchet for both parties. One literally lost his life over it while the second will figuratively lose his life over it.

Zero sympathy for the POS who got shot for stealing junk, but at the same time it’s not a legal shoot as far as I can tell. The shooter will be pushing rope up a hill trying to convince a jury the guy was a threat. Depending on what was said during the robbery he is going to be broke and in jail.

Nope, your dog is only worth it's value on the open market at the time of loss. It's the law, no pick and choose. You certainly value your pet above legal value, but the LAW doesn't. To think this world should be perfect is dopehead thinking. It is, while they are high.

In the REAL world, not Cyberbullshit, the guy is screwed. TBH, I haven't even clicked on the link. Don't have to. A jury of 12 of your peers will decide your fate blindfolded.

But, obviously, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, none of you saying "good riddance", have ever taken another human life. If you're not Satan or Hitler, that shit will haunt your dreams. Not to mention your pocketbook. Getting away with murder is easy, just ask O.J. or Cullen Davis. They paid for non-conviction.

Nope, not changing my mind.....although , I've heard this from guys I ran around with in my storied past after I did something : " I've killed people for less." And they may have been honest....IDK.

This was a heat of the moment thing, and you can't take back a bullet. People on here wanna dis .25 autos, but a round in the knee would have diffused the situation.

REALLY , THINK ABOUT IT. Nobody is really saying it was self defense, but being homeless and stealing a hatchet (maybe to cut wood to stay warm) is reason to terminate a human life.

Nope, nope, nope....I pray that if you really think about this, you will alter your opinion, or at least somewhat ingage your brains before pulling your weapons.

    Exactly this.

When you choose to steal something you are the one deciding the value of what you are stealing is worth risking your life for.

I never said I would do the same. But that doesn’t mean I have sympathy for someone who decided to roll the dice taking part of someone else’s life, no matter how small, and lost.

Don’t want to get shot over a hatchet? Don’t try to steal a hatchet.

That's it, you convinced me not to seek a life of crime, all this time thinking of opening my own hatchet store. Dammit!

18.5 Years until OPMD took me out of the game. Illegals were not allowed to have weapons of any kind (hatchet, knives), lighters. Some people didn't search thoroughly and you find and errant knife in the back of the G-ride you were assigned that day. If I was taking them into custody, everything was taken that could be construed as a weapon.
