Sorry, but that article is clearly biased and doesn't address both side of the question, so I will only take it as one man's opinion and attempts to persuade others to agree with him.

I found nothing in this article that will compel me to stop OC'ing, and honestly I don't give a damn if anyone agrees with it or not!

But that's the beauty of an inalienable right...and true friends don't try to interfere with what you believe in!

First off, my open carry doesn't involve an AR15 or AK47, so could there be an argument against that, possibly. Second, the author is obviously against open carry, so I would be very surprised if he would even attempt to find any positives to open carry. If he doesn't open carry then why use terms like "in my experience"? A uniformed LEO's experiences is not going to be the same as an ordinary citizen's.

Now if you want to make an argument of is there times and places it might not be prudent to open carry, I can probably find that to be a better point.

1st time I OC'd was 2011 or 2012 - before it was legal. I walked into a café (maybe THE café) in Marathon, TX with my shirt tail up (inadvertently) & my sidearm obvious to everyone. Some old cowboy said "Well, I see they're letting motersickle riders carry guns now." I nearly crapped my pants, but then realized right away that this is West Texas - & nobody's concerned.

Since the law changed, I’ve seen 5-6 people open carrying.

    Nobody seems to care.

I prefer to conceal carry because it’s easy and I don’t want a potential foe to know I’m armed until necessary.

I OC and CC, depending on where I go and what I’m doing.

In the aviation world, we call it ‘mission’, but it’s about what you have to do vs what you want to do.

I’ve found and IWB holster with shirt tucked inside the holster is pretty damn good. An OWB holster and a sport coat, too.

IWB with sport coat gets me wherever I want to go.

I OC when I want. Husband OCs when he wants.

I really don’t think we are in the company of criminals all that often.

I’ve had people be positively impacted my my OCing. I’ve had women ask me when they see I’m OCing about how THEY can become empowered to carry too. So there’s that.

I have a buddy that posts some articles from activeresponse on his FB wall. He is a very switched on individual. That said, I disagree with a lot of what they have written in the past. I just quickly scanned the article. Pfft, it is what it is. He doesn't like OC obviously and that's ok, he doesn't have to OC. Is OC the end all be all, nope. It isn't the hysteria and the death of the armed individual that some make it out to be either.

I've seen plenty of people OC out here around Ft Hood and have done it a few times myself. The two times that stick with me the most were both a young (child) girl and an older elderly woman on separate occasions both came up to me thinking I was law enforcement. Once I explained I wasn't, they both told me they were lost and needed help finding their people, and I stuck with them until we found their people. I've only seen one person visibly upset over it and knowing the guy personally - he's an Al Sharpton wannabe who I really don't give a crap about his feelings anyways.

You can preach all day about the dangers of OC. I recognise this every time I slip on the holster and have measures to make it go as smooth as possible.

I OC’d in NC many years ago before my escape to TX. No big deal there and don’t think it would be so where I am now. (Disclaimer, haven’t gotten LTC, due to time constraints.) My parents were visiting us in College Station from north Texas and my dad was OC his small Ruger at a local BBQ joint. I overheard two guys about 30 talking about how they thought it was odd/weird. He didn’t hear and couldn’t care if he did.

When I finally find the time and get mine, I look forward to OC my S&W 629.

Things that surprise the hell out of me list:
The yuge amount of Confederate battle flags I saw in Pennsylvania
The yuge amount of people I saw OCing in Pennsylvania

You wouldn't believe how common OCing was up there. I would go out to go to the hardware store, grocery store or walmart and run into atleast two people doing it. I thought it was the county I was in but once again, when we moved back to Texas, we drove across the entire state and ran into the same thing in different counties. I chose to conceal carry since that place has 8 months of "freeze your nuts off" weather. I also didn't OC in North Carolina when I lived there.

I think that OC is going to be more common in states where it has always been allowed. Might take a bit longer for it to catch on here in Texas.

That said, I have seen quite a few people OCing out in the country. The only time I have seen it in dfw is at the cabelas near the speedway. Old timer was OCing a nice 1911.

The comment I referenced upthread where a woman asked me about how she could responsibly become a firearm owner and carrier after seeing me open carry... was at Aladdian’s restaurant in Houston at the corner of Westheimer and Montrose. Lol.

Only recall seeing open carry a time or two.

The counter to the author's OC scares people is that if more OC occurred, the general population would get used to it.

Personally, I CC. I have no problems with others who choose to OC.
