So as some of you know, I am the firearm specialist at Blue Diamond in San Antonio. I am a big S&W 3rd gen fanatic. My first handgun was a 4006. I stupidly sold it while i was living in CA and have regretted it ever since. Now that I work at a store that sells firearms again, I have been keeping my eye out for any 3rd gen Smiths that walk through the front door.

This week, one of my favorite and sought after 3rd gens did just that. Only problem was that the trigger was not functioning in single action. I made sure to still give the seller a good deal and bought it from the store myself literally the next day (after I went to the bank and withdrew enough cash to take it home with me). I fixed the trigger that same night. Had to anneal a brass "spring" connected to the trigger and bend it back into place. I spent about 3 hours fiddling with it late at night and realized that it has literally the best DA/SA trigger I have ever felt on a semi-auto. I also realized it fits my sig p226 galco shoulder holster perfectly. It's now my store carry gun. Once I get my LTC (I only have about a month until my 6 months of residency are complete here in texas) I will likely use it as my primary carry gun. I prefer heavy guns and have never had a problem carrying full stainless steel guns as long as i have a good belt and holster combo. I will likely use the shoulder holster for winter months but for summer i'll be using a good IWB and OWB setup depending on my attire.

Also got a chance to go out and shoot it. This thing is dead-nuts accurate. was able to get about a 3" group off-hand at 25 yards. I was also able to empty all 9 rounds in very little time because of the weight and lack of recoil/muzzle-flip.

Now I am going to keep my eye out for a 1066 or 1006 and a 5906. 3rd gen smiths are the most underrated handguns ever produced in my opinion. thankfully for me, people are so worried about the weight of their handguns these days that these old smiths go largely unnoticed. More for me I guess lol.

I had a 4506 long ago, and I really regret selling that one.

Everybody I know that has sold a s&w 3rd gen regrets it. They are honestly the best built s&w handguns ever made. Smith made a mistake when they discontinued them in lieu of the m&p series. They should have made both.

agree w the other posts they are great pistols, have owned several only complaint is the slide mounted safeties/ decocker. They have made a big comeback recently. would pick one up in a heartbeat IF i could find a deal, the few I see are crazy priced now.

I got mine for 260 because of the trigger issue. If I can get a 5906 and a 1066 my 3rd gen collection would be complete. But I really want a 1006 for handgun hunting. I feel like getting the slide killed for an RMR would be awesome on a 1006.

And I agree with the slide mounted safety comment. However, it’s the only gun I tolerate it with. I just use it as a decocker and keep the safety off. A long DA pull is all that’s necessary since it has a firing pin safety.

I thought they did away with the whole 6 months of residency thing
If they did that’s news to me. A few months ago at my cvs class they told me it was still a thing. But that could very well be wrong.

I’ll have to look into it because one of my customers said it’s a thing but it’s never enforced.

I just moved here from CA this year. Not used to all the freedom.

PS: I left California because of the politics, so don’t tell me to leave my Ca politics there because people in CA told me they didn’t want to hear my Texas like politics. Lol

Being Texan is a mindset; political beliefs is way, way down the list of what makes up the mindset.

Then I think I was a Texan the day I was born in Ca. Lol. I never liked anything about Ca. Had somebody at the library today telling me to vote for Beto and get rid of the second amendment.

I was wearing a t shirt that said my rights don’t end where your feelings begin. You really think I’m gonna change my mind because some lady has hurt feelings?
