So as some of you know, I am the firearm specialist at Blue Diamond in San Antonio. I am a big S&W 3rd gen fanatic. My first handgun was a 4006. I stupidly sold it while i was living in CA and have regretted it ever since. Now that I work at a store that sells firearms again, I have been keeping my eye out for any 3rd gen Smiths that walk through the front door.
This week, one of my favorite and sought after 3rd gens did just that. Only problem was that the trigger was not functioning in single action. I made sure to still give the seller a good deal and bought it from the store myself literally the next day (after I went to the bank and withdrew enough cash to take it home with me). I fixed the trigger that same night. Had to anneal a brass "spring" connected to the trigger and bend it back into place. I spent about 3 hours fiddling with it late at night and realized that it has literally the best DA/SA trigger I have ever felt on a semi-auto. I also realized it fits my sig p226 galco shoulder holster perfectly. It's now my store carry gun. Once I get my LTC (I only have about a month until my 6 months of residency are complete here in texas) I will likely use it as my primary carry gun. I prefer heavy guns and have never had a problem carrying full stainless steel guns as long as i have a good belt and holster combo. I will likely use the shoulder holster for winter months but for summer i'll be using a good IWB and OWB setup depending on my attire.
Also got a chance to go out and shoot it. This thing is dead-nuts accurate. was able to get about a 3" group off-hand at 25 yards. I was also able to empty all 9 rounds in very little time because of the weight and lack of recoil/muzzle-flip.
Now I am going to keep my eye out for a 1066 or 1006 and a 5906. 3rd gen smiths are the most underrated handguns ever produced in my opinion. thankfully for me, people are so worried about the weight of their handguns these days that these old smiths go largely unnoticed. More for me I guess lol.
