The LEO's I know Don't fear people with guns for two reasons: Cops are better trained and criminals will conceal carry with out regard to the law.

    I don't know any chiefs.
Of the people I know, the cops run a distant 2nd in firearms training.
    Probably just my circle though.

I always thought that Police Depts go over different laws as periodic refreshers during staff meetings. 1 or 2 laws this week, a law or two next week. Is this not a thing?

Before you start to carry one keep in mind cops are not up on laws and if you have one there is a good chance you will take the ride and eventually get out of it might be free might cost 10K in attorney fees.

If you want to risk it then you also have to have your gun on you when you carry the batton.
    Pure BS.
That's just asking for law suits. How can a cop do his job if he doesn't know what he can and can't do legally. But you are probably right, that's why I don't trust cops or the government that employs dumb people.
    Good example... https://www.texasguntalk.com/thread...ife-chl-concealed-handgun-jail-charges.44924/

Shrug no idea it has not happened to me.

I would assume if you have an illegal club on your belt well that is plenty of probable cause to stop you and ask what the hell do you think your are doing.

So what was the reason for the stop / arrest if he doesn't know if you did something illegal or not. Yes, every cop makes a judgement of guilty or innocent with every stop or he's making an illegal stop, right!

What is an illegal club, baseball bat, cane, fence post, umbrella?

You are right as far as I read. With that said the people responsible for writing those laws should be fired and laws rewritten (by people that haven't had their brains turned to mush by our colleges of higher learning, god I hate lawyers and politicans) so people can understand them and be able to follow said laws. Better yet just repeal them as they IMO are an infringement to the 2nd Amendment.

I think we are getting a bit sidetracked with the club discussion. Yes, it is something which should be addressed and I have hopes the bill author will amend the bill once this is brought to his attention. Getting a Constitutional Carry bill through the legislative maze is going to be difficult struggle requiring a focused effort of gun owners voicing their concerns to their legislators. Start researching the facts about Constitutional Carry and present them to your legicritter in a professional and polite manner.

John Lott's site is a good resource:

Not a problem, it just irks me when the citizen "must" know all the laws etc. but cops can slide by and hope it holds up in court and judges seem to favor the cops position which means more money for the state, thus them. Plus the lawyers get more work/money out of it too. Follow the money for any new law restricting the people and you have the reason for said law.

So this bill takes away open carry?

    Section 6 46.035 sub section A

A person commits an offense if a person
carries a handgun and intentionally displays the handgun in plain
view of another person in a public place.

    My legalese aint too good.
    No, still license excepted.
