The one time I had an oil/lube place do my oil, when I got home, I discovered my filter hadn't been changed out. Plus, I was supposed to have Mobil 1, but I thought if they cheated my on the oil filter how do I know they didn't put crap oil in my crankcase. I didn't watch when it was done.

I negotiated they change out the oil (again) while I witnessed it, Mobile 1 out of cans, not some big bulk dispenser, plus of course a new filter. The guy dong the oil and filter was the same guy acted like he wasn't chagrined when caught and having to make it right, but he was. I went to his boss to complain and he was agreeable about my witnessing the ah, ahem, correction.

Of course, I learned my lesson.
My wife took her Buick to Jiffy Lube in Odessa for an oil change once, and they informed her they were out of the filter she needed. They changed her oil anyway, and told her if she went to Auto Zone or somewhere and bought a filter, they would gladly put it on for her. When I got back to town, I took her car back in there so I could watch them change the oil and filter with the branch manager standing next to me. I even got a refund for what she paid. Needless to say, we never used that place again.

Well at least they made good on their screw up, many places may refund and let you go elsewhere to have it changed.

There wasn’t much chance of them not fixing the issue. I had my teenage daughter with me, and she told me later how embarrassed she was because she thought I was being overly aggressive. I will admit I completely lost my cool, but the only way I was leaving there was either happy or handcuffed.

Every year the wife takes her car into the local Louetta Automotive joint for an inspection, and every year they try to pull some kind of nonsense on her. They see a young, fit, attractive gal and make all sorts of assumptions. The worst of course, is that she knows nothing about cars when the reality she is very well versed. They usually try to to hit her with the fluid flushes. 2017 it was a transmission flush, this year it was a brake system flush. On a properly maintained newer car with under 50k miles. They'll pull out a tray they say has "samples" of what came out of "her" car, with fluid she can't even recognize. The trans fluid she said looked and smelled like a mix of gear oil, motor oil, and water. The brake fluid she said looked like old antifreeze and motor oil. Both samples quite obviously NOT from her car (which has clean red trans fluid and clean nearly clear brake fluid).

Firestone in Bedford. They were very busy. So I got lunch and waited.

Firestone is absolute shit and I would never take another car to them again. One time my vent actuator on my car was out. I thought about replacing it myself, but frankly I didn't want to spend 5 hours doing something a proper person could do in 30 minutes. The part was a lever that cost literally 18 dollars. They wanted to charge me 1504 to fix it... I wrote a scathing review on yelp and google.

Uh, we probably need a pic or two to verify your assumptions about their assumptions are indeed correct.

    Hee Hee...

I was a car salesman. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who'd buy the VIN window etching for $300-$400 bucks.

That $350 bucks involved me walking to Make Ready. Sticking a sticker on the glass and dobbing it with acid. Give it a couple minutes and pull the tape off......Bam!.....$350 bucks.

You guys really don't want to know how much you paid for wax....Oops....I mean paint sealant. Only available from the factory. At least the bottle it came in. Because Wal-Mart sells the wax in a different bottle for $5 bucks.

As a new car owner. You'll pay about $200-$300.

I won't break any more hearts by describing Extended Warranties. All Ill say, it's big money. Lots of nasty, big, green Bennies.

Well, some college professor who can't change a tire comes in to buy a car.

You break the stick off in his butt.
Absolutely. It’s very common for people not to change their own oil, plugs, oil cooler, ujoints, air filter, sensors, diff oil, Bruce Jenner fluid, ect.

If you say those exact words to the guy. The follow up is an extended warranty for around $1200.

The company that offers it, calls it, 'Selling Paper'. There's no cost to them unless you make a claim. By that time, the car worn out. Every repair being paid for is technically your money.

The amount of money over that. Is pure profit.

I figured as much. I always said no to them and good old preventative maintenance seemed to keep me on the road without any issues.

Instead of buying a warranty. Budget $100 a month for car repairs. Keep your money and your interest. Verses giving it to a third party to hold on to it.

That's a perfect, cuddly world...which does not exist in a salesmans office.

Good advice for those reading. I have a water jug that’s my piggy bank. I put away about 250 a month for something like this. Or guns...damn addiction.

The salesman can make upwards of 10-15k a month. The power people.

The sales manager makes at least $15,000 a month doing nothing but scrolling a number on paper the salesman hands to you.

    Finance Manager, $20,000

Dealership manager. Usually a either really fat guy or a tiny skinny guy wearing a real suit. He makes a minimum of about $25 grand a month.

    ....

You wouldn't believe the money dealerships make. You'd think they sell maybe a few cars a month. Nope, 25-75 cars a DAY at some places.
