So I went to Lone Star Defense on Long Point to ship out a couple of guns I sold on Gunbroker. I called the owner ahead of time and said if I could stop by to drop them off. He said fine. I have been to this store before, and talked to the owner David Truong once or twice. He has been cordial before. But on the day I came in to ship out the guns, he went haywire on me. I was filling out the paperwork with one of his staff when he suddenly kicked me out, saying I was acting "off" or that he had a bad feeling about me. I was thinking, what was he talking about? This was right after I requested to take a pic of the guns' serial numbers for my own record. His employee said don't worry we recorded the number on the form. I said, I know but I still want to take a pic, it's something I always do.

Maybe the owner got offended I didn't trust his employee? Anyway, he went from 0-10 fast. He threatened to physically lay hands on me and kick me out. It seemed way out of proportion to what transpired. I never raised my voice.

I posted this review, and this is his response.

Everything he says in his response was not true. I was not enraged, I was like, what is happening exactly? Granted I had a headache that day and was coming down with something, so I wasn't super cheerful but I never treated anyone there disrespectfully. His long, drawn-out response also reeks of "protest too much" - it's scary when someone thinks you did this crazy bad thing, when you're just going about your day. Was he going to accuse me of robbing his store, next?

His response to my review goes from condescending attitude ("I even counted to ten, like how an adult would countdown towards an unruly child") to praying for me and saying God bless. Wow, talk about mood swing. LOL

I had no anxiety that he accused me of. Why would I? I wasn't there to buy anything, just to ship something out to a buyer's FFL. How could anyone be shady about that?

I mean, if he didn't want to do it for me, he could have just told me on the phone 15 minutes prior when I called him, so I could go somewhere else. He seems to base all this on his "feelings" and such. I'm just a quiet guy with glasses, no gang markings on my face or body. After this bizarre incident I just went to another FFL and got it shipped out with no fuss or drama. And yes, I took a pic of the guns' serial numbers at this other FFL's office, and he didn't have a problem with that at all.

I've done a lot of business with David Truong. He's a stand up guy and he and his wife Amy have always done me a good job. Done several FFL transfers and shopped his online store many times. Good thing the OP didn't get into a physical confrontation with David because he would have definitely gotten his ass kicked.

Why would I get into a physical confrontation with a FFL dealer who I’m using to ship out some guns I sold? And why would that even be a possibility? If he didn’t want to do it, just tell me and I’ll go somewhere else. No need to get ugly about it.

I’ve been to his store before, looked at his inventory, even chatted with him. I had nothing against him until he acted all weird.

Do his loyal customers, like him, subscribe to acts of violence to resolve simple business matters?

I was just giving you the business in response to the following:
He threatened to physically lay hands on me and kick me out.
Hate to hear you had a bad experience with David.

It's a kangaroo court here. If you did as you said and he did as you said, then leaving and going elsewhere is your best recourse. Of course, my chances of going to that store are slim and none living quite a distance from there. I think if I was wanting to continue doing business with a store I would try to talk to the owner rather than give a bad review, if not, then don't return.

    Say what?

What possible motive would the op have to want to continue to do business with this guy considering his recent experience?

Had I a similar experience I'd have zero motivation to ever darken the businesses door step.........

    Truong = Vietnamese = irrational

I’m half Vietnamese so I’m allowed to say that and you’re a racist

I'm actually Asian myself so you can cross that racism factor out. I'm Asian, Texas A&M grad, long-time firearms enthusiast and collector, pro 2nd-Amendment. Never had a problem like this with any FFL until now. I didn't know David was even remotely Asian, so I don't know what's up with that last name - adopted? Half? Who knows.

I will say I have gotten great treatment from Caucasian FFL dealers through the years, even some deep country guys with thick accents.

I am sending there may be more to the story.

    Thanks Obama!

At face value, I'd say the same thing, but since this happened to me, I can say my account is more accurate than David's response on Google.

    It could be that

    a) he had a bad day, and I was at the wrong place at the wrong time

    b) he had gun consignment section, in which he took 10% from the sale price of each gun. By me selling on Gunbroker, I'd only pay the Gunbroker fee which would be cheaper for me. Was I cutting into his income?

    c) he has some kind of PTSD issues maybe

    d) another FFL, one I did business with for years, said it seemed like David really didn't want me to document those serial numbers for myself, FWIW (granted he didn't know David at all)

You're right. Nope, not going back. It's too bad, too. I kind of liked some of the guns he had in the store.

I posted this review because had I seen a review like this, I would have been spared a horrible experience.

I, too, had a pleasant experience with this store, until I didn't. YMMV
