I've had Lowe's discontinue certain tools so the "lifetime warranty" was useless.

I've had Sears do the same thing to me. The difference was, sears offered me an equivalent one time replacement where Lowes just said call this phone number, and the phone number said, that is no longer available.

Harbor freight has some decent stuff. The stuff you'll only use a few times. I have a vacuum pump and AC gauges. A 3/8" Palm ratchet.

That's about it. Last time I was there I bought some nitril gloves. I need to swing by there again and buy a tube of Super Lube.

I can't think of any other place that has it. Or seen it at. Harbor freight always has it.

Slightly off topic but, around 1980 I had a socket set stole from me on the job site. It was a set of Proto socket set. Irritated the heck out of me. Went to a lumber store for something and wound up buying a socket set of Master Mechanix for 2 bucks. I figured if they were to Steele this it was two bucks. I still have that set and it has been to hell and back and never failed me.

If you bought one of those now, it probably wouldn’t last all the way home.

You bought something made by somebody that doesn't match the stuff after 1990.

Master Mechanic is a True Value in house tool brand. It is made by the Jore Corporation. Founded in 1990.

I have no idea who manufactured the stuff before 1990.

I hope the HF special lasts for 10 rivets. Your Rivetor career could be cut short.

When I was first introduced to Harbor Freight, the rule of thumb was, no electrical or battery tools and only buy hand tools you need rarely or planned on replacing often.

The quality has greatly improved over the years. Likely due to the warranty they offer. And as the quality of other brands has continued to fall, the gap isn't as noticeable as it used to be, if it's even there at all.

From the last few years, I've had better luck with HF stuff than I have with Craftsman.

My Father In Law and I were just having a similar conversation about this. He's big on quality tools but said some of the HF stuff isn't too bad especially for casual use.

Lowe's has a Craftsman commercial going.

Giggle* As they say it, "A new home". Showing shelves full of craftsman in boxes with the tool boxes on the side. Way to Go Lowe's.

All the old country songs will still apply. You just have to buy from a different store. Go USA.

I bought a Craftsman torque wrench in inch lbs. I used it once, then tried to use it again a few months later and the piece of shit broke. As luck would have it, the warranty on their torque wrenches are for 90 days. F*** Craftsman.

I just beat on an open end Craftsman wrench with my 2# hammer.

    Didn't break anything.

Not sure when they became junk but must have been after I bought these.
