I'm attempting to attend the Corsicana session. Assuming of course, yet nothing else pops up like a jack-in-the-box.

Life does tend to throw nasty surprises our way, doesn't it? I hope things smooth out enough to allow your attending the Corsicana event. If you can't make it, there is always the video in Post #19. Hearing Rachel in person and being able to ask questions is soooo much better, though.

I spent many hours in Maryland working to defend and preserve our rights mentioned in the Second Amendment. I learned there the importance of individual citizens taking part in the legislative process, both to help shepherd good bills through to passage and to effectively block bills which threaten our rights. It took a bit of effort and working with more experienced folks to find a path through the maze of a bill's journey into law.

I was expecting to find the same learning curve here in my new Texas home. I was very happily surprised to learn that Rachel Malone, the new Texas director for Gun Owners of America, is planning a series of legislative training sessions throughout the state. These two to three hour sessions will cover:

    - the legislative process
    - how to track bills and topics
    - how to read and understand bills
    - chokepoints and pressure points
    - interacting with legislators
    - navigating committee hearings
    - preparing testimony
    - delivering testimony

What do you care about? Guns / Constitutional Carry? Maybe other things also? Come to this training and Rachel will show you how to make it happen.

I am well aware of the role played by the Texas State Rifle Association and I am a member. One lone organizational lobbyist cannot do the job. To preserve and protect our Second Amendment Rights during the upcoming session will require a strong band of informed and active citizens. This educational effort is helping to form such a group of activists. The information shared in the presentation is thorough enough to help a newcomer to the legislative fight comfortably navigate the maze of the law making process and also offer a few tips and tricks to a veteran of the Austin scene.

OK, fine. Welcome to this site and our area.

Please tell us if you are an employee or agent of GOA.

You may know that many of us are not exactly thrilled with LaPierre, but stay loyal to NRA & especially to TSRA. I have considered joining GOA for a while.

Please fill us in on who you are and exactly why you have come to Texas & jumped into the state's politics.

Rachel is paid by the GOA. AFAIK, she's the only paid GOA person in Texas, though I could certainly be wrong about that.

I don't see the GOA competing with the TSRA. Alice does a fine job on behalf of the TSRA and us but having another person and organization pushing in the same direction can only help.

OK, fine. Welcome to this site and our area.

Thank you. I've only been living in Texas for a bit over a year now but fell in love with the state and its people the moment I crossed the border. It felt like coming home.

Please tell us if you are an employee or agent of GOA.

Beyond my membership, I have no affiliation with the GOA in any official capacity.

You may know that many of us are not exactly thrilled with LaPierre, but stay loyal to NRA & especially to TSRA. I have considered joining GOA for a while.

I am a Benefactor Life member of the NRA and a member of the NRA Ring of Freedom Heritage Society. I am also a Life member of the Second Amendment Foundation. I have recently joined the Gun Owners of America as an annual member.

On the state level, I am a member of the TSRA and of Lone Star Gun Rights. I have maintained my membership in Maryland Shall Issue but unfortunately let my membership in the Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association lapse.

Please fill us in on who you are and exactly why you have come to Texas & jumped into the state's politics.

I think I made a start on that with my post in the "Introduction" section of the forum. I left Maryland because I was tired of beating my head against a liberal wall while the socialists picked my pocket with innumerable taxes and fees and infringed upon my liberties with a pile of useless regulations. I came to Texas for a number of reasons, too many to list individually. During my first visit here several years ago, I fell in love with the state and its people. I saw Texas as a place where I could stretch my retirement nest egg and enjoy the many freedoms I was denied in Maryland.

I "jumped" into state politics here as a continuation of the years of involvement in my previous home. I am making an effort here to preserve the many good things which first drew me to Texas in the best way I know how, by actively expressing my views to my elected representatives at the state and local levels.

I believe you are correct. At least, according my research as well, she is the only paid employee in the state of Texas.

One voice, one group, one club, one organization just isn't enough to help in the fight. We all need all the help we can get. Not only for state's right but, to help push those Rights back to the point of "shall not be Infringed" on the Federal level.

We had a small group show up for the program last night in Llano. The group made up for the lack of numbers by engaged conversation and thoughtful questions. I think everyone went home knowing more about the legislative process and hopefully will be motivated to attend and testify at a hearing or two. There are certainly enough bad bills in the pipeline already, so the bill list and alert features of TLO which Rachel demonstrated will get a workout.

There are several more sessions planned throughout the state, so I hope you can make the time to get to one.
