polesmokr obviously has some emotional homoerotic tie to that psycho gun shop owner, so I'll just put him on the 'ignore' list and recommend others do the same.

He's just a troll looking for some desperately wanted attention in his pitiful life, don't give him any.

Another 1-star review posted today, with a response from the owner as well.

This "Mark Luna" is not me, as he stated in his review. It's just a coincidence we have the same initials.

Yelling? You obviously have deep emotional issues, so I'll just add you to the distinguished list of people whose opinions I don't give a flying **** about and we'll all walk away happy!

But just for your badly-needed education, I spent 25 years of my life defending the right to have guns; so if you feel I shouldn't have them, feel free to try and take them from me. I'll be waiting...
Oooh. I don't even know what is going on here, but I'm skeered.

Guy seems a little paranoid. Never understood business owners running off business for no apparent reason.

Guys, if you haven't been to the store, you really should visit them at least once before making your final judgement.

On the Google reviews, it's either 1 star or 5 star. Very few 1 star reviews. Most of the 1 star reviews have stories behind them. The OP's story is a bit weird, I agree though.

If notice in my post (#205) with Mark Luna's review (and the owner's response), there is a consistent pattern of

    a) things may go well for one or two visits/transactions but that's no guarantee of future experience

    b) the owner and his wife seems to be easily set off (triggered) by certain questions or comments, and if you happen to step on that landmine your experience at the store will change dramatically and in an instant. In my case, I think I dared to question the wife's competence in writing the correct serial number down by wanting to take my own pics.

    Why?

What value or service does this particular shop provide that sets them apart enough that I should visit them?

If you are asking genuinely, I personally think they have the best in town, non-hassle, $15 FFL transfer. Their selection is decent with good price. Their online selection is huge like any other stores but their online prices are not too far off from the cheapest you can find. On top of that, they greet you with a smile, not a stare. I've been their customer for 5 years when they first opened in a tiny, tiny warehouse.

Most of the new gun stores that open in the last five years all have excellent customer service. Good service drives customers back for more services like classes, transfers, sales, and referrals (free marketing). It is what they are competing against. Unlike the older stores ran by older folks, service may be hit or miss. If you are in Houston, you know we have a few of those.

I've already agreed your case is a bit strange. I can't speak for Mark Luna's but I thought both side presented their stories well and it's understandable from both side.

    If you are asking genuinely,

Thank you for answering. Though I'm not in the Houston area, I'm genuinely interested when someone says 'try this place out', so I always ask why. The reason is simply to understand differentiation.

For me, a retail LGS is a retail LGS. They're expected to competently transact firearm transactions...that's table stakes. As is customer service. Pricing is what it is...the break point is shipping + FFL fee vs tax on the sale is the equation. Inventory is a push as if he doesn't have it, I can order it in.

Where an LGS can differentiate: specialization and service(s).

I have seen better customer service at pawn shops, where customers would yell and scream at them for not taking their junk as loan collateral, and yet the staff would still remain calm.

I have also seen pawn shop employees shred my receipts or documents with personal information before I leave the store. Compare to this gun store owner who claims to know who I am weeks after I left without completing a FFL transaction. How does he know who I am? Did he memorize my name, or keep my documents in a file somewhere - for what purpose? Even if he didn't know who I was, why publicly state that on the internet? Was that a threat of some kind?

How do you explain his post accusing me of being rude, cold, and unprofessional, accusing me of trying to get him to do something against the law (a lie), as well as claiming to know who I am despite no transaction - how do you explain that as reasonable and "good customer service"?

It's his words you have to look at, not mine.

I don't really understand this concept of defending a business. Would he do the same for you? Are you a personal friend of the owner? Or did he just take your money in exchange for some merchandise? If you didn't give him money, what would he have to do with you? Would he give you the time of day otherwise?

I will say Scott Burris of Lone Star Tactical Supply in Cypress exemplifies good customer service. A firearms enthusiast and competition shooter, he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to guns including NFA. He specializes in LE sales and weapons. I've never seen him in a bad mood. And his FFL fee is $15 (if buyer is a permit holder). Ship out cost are the same as the guy who kicked me out.

It's not me who's being a little bitch, it's you who goes to defend this guy although he doesn't give two shits about you. Really pathetic, and a true sign of a weak mind. But I wouldn't expect anything different from someone who laughs at inflicting pain on another person's dog, intentional or not.

I wholeheartedly recommend you to go visit this store. Just make sure you question his wife about anything, and you'll find yourself yelled at and thrown out. That's his specialty, and if you're into that, that's the place for you.
