there are a good 2-3 ponds in the area that stock trout in the winter. Only place in Texas that has trout year round is the Guadalupe River in SATX and you can only access it by yak or non-motor boat.

There's a guy I see fly fishing all the time in Keller. Saw a guy last week fly fishing as well in Hurst.

A bit of a drive, but google Broken Bow in Oklahoma. I grew up in Ft.Worth and have fly fished this spot a few times with the family. It’s nice to just get out in the creeks, wade around and let your fly drift. There’s a dam that they let cold water from and also release trout.
Sweet! Looks awesome - makes me think of the Green River - tail water fisheries are fantastic - thank you!

Sure enough.... they just dropped trout in the river very recently. My uncle has a house on the river and has pulled a couple of monster trout out of the river in the last week. There are a number of places to put in and fish off a kayak, but you can also wade into the river; plenty of fly fishers in waders in the river near the 306 bridge crossings.

BTW.. welcome to TX. I'm a CA escape as well (NorCal, lived in Santa Cruz for a few years). It's been great for us here and we have ZERO desire to see any of the CA stupidity repeated here!

Welcome! I Left the left coast myself in 2012 (Washington by way of Oregon). It's a shame how badly the politics have gotten. I worked for the Navy and traveled a lot to Ca., I do miss riding along the Pacific Coast, but glad to be away from the liberal politics.

Funny, I'm from Santa Cruz too. Same with you, too much liberal stupidity in that area of CA - I was there a few weeks ago to pick up some things, see my dad, etc. and its much worse than even the last time I was there 6 months ago. I sure love TX!

I hear you about CA. I lived there when I was a preschooler, and we still run out there every few years and visit some old family grave sites, etc. CA really is a beautiful, magical place. Too bad it's ruined.

Fly fishing: sir, what you need to do is find a Bass Pro Shops. They have an enormous fly fishing department, a completely separate area packed with fly tackle, fly tying materials and tools, vests, float tubes, you name it. If you like fly fishing, you'll be drooling in there. But mainly, they could probably tell you some good places to fly fish, and hook you up with local people or groups.

Yes, visiting CA now is about all I can imagine, and then, for a short time - until I get frustrated and have to leave again. You're right - such a wonderful climate and beautiful country but completely ruined. I fear Oregon, Washington and Nevada are going the same direction. :(

Yes, I know Bass Pro very well, having grown up owning/working in a fly shop with my dad, I knew them from a business level, knew what they carried, what their prices were, etc. So its a little tough for me now to go to a Bass Pro, but I hear what you're saying. I'm one of those guys who likes to patronize small business and keep the littler guys going - so I buy guns from the local dealer despite paying tax, but I want to make sure he stays in business so that when I need something today, he's open. Old fashioned I guess in the face of Amazon Prime :)

Welcome and as long as you vote right and dont change Texas for the worst, you will find most people will have no problems with you

Hey happy to have you and glad you're through your treatment. I wish you would have contacted us sooner. We have about a dozen members in the Fort Worth area and from what I've seen most of them are pretty awesome guys. I may be moving out of the area next month but if you need anything until then let me know. I've got a little free time.

    Where are you moving to????

Although I've lived in all four states at some point in my life, and I'm not as sure where Nevada is politically today, but both Oregon and Washington due to the western cities (majority of people) is already gone the way of California.

That's a CRAZY place isn't it? I'd get into some sort of verbal confrontation with those nutfarms at the clocktower almost every day I lived DT. We rented a condo (about 750k market value at the time) on North Pacific. We had a kid litterally gunned down at the complex entrance, and a few months later just up the road was that horrible incident with that little girl in the "Arts" complex. Parked one of our cars on the street one night (just once) woke up to VMs from the local PD about them finding a homeless guy passed out inside our car. Jackadd did $2500 of damage to our car and got his blood all over the inside of it. One... night, in a neighborhood full of homes pushing a million dollars.. ugh.. We spent our last two years there in a house up off Branceforte.. way out in the wood on a one-lane goat road... it was the best couple of years we spent in S.C. LOL.
    PippinLaneDeckCam.jpg

My wife still runs a medical imaging business in S.C. and is there every 3 months; she said the same thing.. every time she goes back it's noticeably worse. When I see ANY sort of homeless activity around here I call it in to the Police and they get taken care of. Vigilance is imperative... as we've both seen the end result of letting certain people who just refuse to be good citizens. I see it every time I commute to Austin.. crap all over the roads.. shopping carts lever all over the place.... people can draw their own conclusions about politics.. but for me, I've seen the correlation.. the more Liberal a city.. that nastier and more dangerous it is.
