    Hi all,

Moving to Dallas in January and looking forward to living in Texas! When I do, I'm going to rent for a few months as I look for a house to buy. I'm moving with a number of firearms and I was wondering if there is a place to rent storage for them, as I'd rather not leave them all in the apartment for fear of theft. I tried doing some google searches, but didn't have any luck so I thought I'd see if anyone might have advice.

Also, I was curious to know, any kind of laws I should be aware of? I'm moving from Arizona and I believe the laws are similar (no banned firearms aside from federal laws, no funky ammunition laws, no requirements around storage of guns and ammo, etc) but let me know if you have any advice there too.

    Thanks!

I know Alpine Gun Club used to store firearms but that’s more on the south part between Dallas and FTW in Kennedale. If you’re more in the north Dallas area, drop me a message and I’ll give you a couple more.

How many firearms are we talking about here? If not a lot, then maybe a friend or relative would be willing to keep them in their safe for you. Otherwise, here are some options...

As for Texas laws, they're pretty much like Arizona; but a good source of info is the Texas License to Carry a Handgun Laws and Selected Statutes from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Or you can just Google "Texas Gun Laws" and a variety of information will come up.

Lastly, but most importantly, welcome to Texas!

Would it be a bad idea to rent one of those public self storage units? Or do they get burglarized a lot?
That would be a very bad idea. They get hit a lot. I guess it would be gambling to see if they hit yours. Maybe buy a safe on a payment plan? You are gonna need one eventually. If money is really tight, maybe bolt a steel locking cabinet to floor or wall studs? Friends are good IF they have room. I would not.

Starting out, I bought the locking cabinet. 2 safes later, the cabinet is used to store ammo.

I don’t see the problem with storing in the apartment.

We did that for six months when we were in between homes.

Bolted a stack-on to the wall studs in the spare bedroom closet.

Yes, the complex can enter the apartment without notice, but they can’t rummage through your stuff.

If you’re that worried about it, add a nest or Arlo camera and a simpli-safe alarm.

Yep, any number of cheap cameras available now that send clips/notifications to your phone.
You can even talk to the people.

Traveling for work I called ahead to the small town LGS and arranged for him to "repair" 15-20 guns for $50. When I picked them up on Friday, he would only take $25. YMMV

    I'm curious.
Typically an FFL is required to "log in" guns they take in.
    Was this done for yours?

No problemo. Just swing by the house...:green:

In all seriousness though some of our DFW members are extremely trustworthy individuals. Deemus and Pr0nstar most notably in the North Dallas Area I'd trust with my life as well as any firearm.. If you're closer to the midcities or Fort Worth I'll absolutely safely store them.

Seriously, too bad this is your first post, so you havent had the chance to get to know folks here, and welcome.

I dont know any of these guys but I can think of a dozen or so real quick that I would leave my guns with in a pinch.

    Also...
What area? This is a huge place (even the "Dallas" area, Im an hour south)
    How many firearms? 5?....500?
