Not that it will be a cure all but I use reputable ammo and inspect my firearm after unboxing/disassembled. After years of shooting no kaboom yet. It is after all a cheap machine and you should inspect before first shots

That was a long hangfire. I've experienced at least 50 hangfires in my life <story omitted> but none of them displayed that length of time between primer strike and ignition. That's scary.
The only time I have witnessed a hangfire is with a mosin shooting some strange surplus ammo(not the russian red cased stuff) and it only hung up for 2-3 seconds from what I remember.

5"/38 hang fires are fun to watch unless you're the poor slob that gets picked to unload and carry the rnd out of the turret & drop over the side. Wait time is 1/2 hr to see if it cooks off.

I don't think it's real. The gun isn't even pointed at the jug and I would expect more recoil than that. It seems the only thing that knocked the gun off the table was Old Man Pavlov jumping on the ground.

Seem some hang fires with an old 303 using surplus ammo

Had a guy bring out an old .303 and some surplus ammo. Offered to let me shoot it after he had fired a few rounds. Had a pretty good delay between the pin drop and firing.

I only shot it once and recommended he not shoot it anymore without new ammo and a good cleaning. He said “nah, it’s just the way it shoots”.

This one seemed pretty long while waiting.

I couldn’t tell if it was the firing pin so gummed up it was hanging or the ammo so old it wasn’t firing right. Either way, it was very wrong. Might have been the same guy, lol.

AFAIK he was planning to pack up the rifle in a wooden box and save it for when the world came to an end. Then I guess he will figure out what happens when you shoot a bunch of old corrosive ammo and pick the rifle up for years.

Sad way to see it go, but the guy was thick headed. Happened about 5 years ago.

I'm always terrified of a catastrophic failure, but i think most catastrophic failures are usually caused by one or a combination of the following.

Poorly maintained firearms, incorrect ammo specifications, poorly manufactured cheap firearms.

Every year some Darwin Award contestants load muzzleloaders with smokeless powder and blow things up.
    Heck, It was black!
    Happens a lot.

Saw a sales person who had what was left of a muzzle loader mounted on a plaque on the wall over his office door with a can of red dot attached. His hand from elbow down was still in bandages. He didn’t lose anything but the plaster cast sized bandage told me it did some serious damage. We talked about it for a bit...
