    Because the other 2 days are paid holidays?
    We don't get paid for holidays unless we work them. I was told this policy kicked in back in November. Before, we could take vacation for each day we took.

    If you have more than the limit, the company buys it back from you. At full value. One last payday from 2018.

    Wow that's nice. We can roll over to a maximum but if our bank maxes out then we stop accruing vacation until we use it again.

    I never have that problem. I like my days off and I don't have an issue setting the expectation I will be taking vacation.

    My company doesn’t buy back vacation...you can accrue up to a limit and then you stop accruing until you take some.

    I had to burn up all my sick time for my neck surgery plus a little vacation time.

    At least I can work from home until I am cleared to drive again.

    You need to have a conversation with your HR compensation and/or benefits folks to understand the change in policy.

    Our PTO is 1:1. If you want to have 1 day off, you submit for 8 hrs PTO. We have max accrual of 400 hrs PTO with the ability to buy/sell once per year. At 400 hrs, accrual is halted until PTO is used.

    If you buy and are later promote or receive a pay raise, when you use those bought hrs, you are paid at the rate you bought them for. Same with when you sell. They are sold at the rate they were accrued.

    Tell me something, is it normal for a job to regulate how much your paid with your own vacation hours? Apparently I'm only allowed to take 36 hours for each week I'm gone.
    In Colorado, I could use my hard earned vacation hours for the exact days I took off.

    Let me get this straight, you use 40 hours of vacation time and they only pay you 36 hours? Unless there is a contract stating that you agree to that, that sounds illegal. Everywhere I have worked, you get paid for the amount of leave you use, whether it's 16 hours or 40 hours, that's what I got paid for.

    As for holiday pay, I had to be either on paid leave or work the day before or day after the holiday. I'm not sure how they justify paying holiday pay only if you work the holiday, that doesn't make sense.

    It makes sense to me. The day before the holiday and they day after the holiday aren't the holiday. Why should they get holiday pay?

    My former employer had lots of "differentials", i.e. pay rate multipliers used during times people didn't want to work. There was a night differential, a weekend differential, a holiday differential, etc. Adding up all the differentials, working overtime all night on a weekend during a holiday would be...uh...lessee...base pay X 2.7. I think.

    I don't know for sure because I was always allergic to working nights and holidays.

    As for paying people for 36 hours when they take 40 hours of supposedly paid vacation, all I can say is "Get a rope!"

    I was explaining how I was paid holiday pay. If you are in a paid status the day before or after a holiday you should be paid holiday pay whether you work the holiday or not. Some places pay you regular pay on top of holiday pay if you work it, others may pay you overtime on top of holiday pay. Never worked for a place that offered holiday pay only if you work it.

    Well, where I work they only allow holiday pay IF you work that day.

    Thats interesting because thats contradictory to the very definition of Holiday Pay.
    I've worked here 2 years now and if I didn't work a holiday, I didn't get it. When I do work a holiday, it's great.
    What I am upset about is this new regulation with vacation pay I worked my ass off for. It bothers me and it's not right.

    Ah! I misunderstood.

    Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I was paid for the holiday at normal rate even though I didn't work; it was a "paid holiday."

    If I actually went into the office on the holiday, though, I got my base pay plus a differential. That rate (double, actually) was what I think of when I think of "holiday pay."

    Different perspectives, yes, but I see what you're saying now. I think both our employers worked the same way.

    Yeah, I worked at one place that would pay overtime (time and a half) plus holiday play. I remember my stepfather saying he would work any holidays, because they would pay him triple time, incentive I guess.

    I should have said excluding where I work now. I'm on salary now and don't get holiday pay, but you can't beat the time I get off and I still get paid year around.
    Likewise. I make 5.75 an hour. Doesnt matter if Im shootin, sleepin, fishin, visiting the granbabies in Houston, or God forbid....workin<ugh>




    And good mornin everyone....time to make the donuts. (good Xmas party last night...whew)
